Barts Health NHS Trust has an exciting opportunity for a band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join our rotation within our Stroke pathway at Whipps Cross Hospital.
This band 6 rotation covers the following specialities:
All applicants should be a qualified SLT, who are independent in the assessment and management of patients with dysphagia and communication impairment.
This rotation provides an excellent opportunity for existing band 6s's or experienced band 5s wanting to take on increased responsibility, and to consolidate their knowledge and skills in managing more complex patients with acquired swallowing and communication impairment across a range of inpatient and community settings, within a friendly and supportive team.
There will also be opportunities to develop competencies in videofluoroscopy, tracheostomy, FEES and leadership and management skills e.g. supervising band 5 SLTs and students.
Regular supervision and in-house training will be provided to the successful applicant, which includes joint assessments and formal protected1:1 supervision. There are also excellent CPD opportunities within the SLT service and as part of the wider multidisciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
This post is part of Barts Health SLT Service. The therapist will work as a band 6 SLTwithin a set cog rotation across the adult SLT Acute, Waltham Forest Community SLT team and Stroke teams (inpatient/ community) at Whipps Cross University Hospital.The post holder will be part of a team providing specialist assessment and treatment to adults in the inpatient and community settings, with acquired communication and swallowing difficulties . The post holder will provide intervention both uni-disciplinary and as part of a multi-professional team.The post holder will work as part of the wider therapy team and be involved with service developments along designated clinical pathways. The post holder may be required to supervise band 5 SLT's and band 3 staff if appropriate, and will be expected to support student speech and language therapists on their placements. The post holder will access support and supervision from a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist andClinical Lead SLT.
