  • As a member of the Senior Leadership Team within the Research Department, the Lead Research Nurse/Midwife/ AHP will assist the Clinical Lead & Head of Research to continuously improve the clinical research delivery service by providing leadership and clinical expertise to assure the provision of high quality, safe and effective research delivery to patients, the public and DCH staff.
  • The post-holder will maintain their own clinical skills by actively participating in the care of research patients.
  • Acting as a professional role model, the post-holder will be a highly visible and accessible Nursing/Midwifery/AHP presence providing compassionate and professional leadership and assistance or expert, highly specialised clinical advice to patients, carers and the research delivery workforce, always being mindful of embedding the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • The post-holder will directly line manage clinical research delivery staff providing supervision, support, guidance and direction to achieve the best possible patient care as well as the best quality and financial outcomes for the Research Department.
  • Ensure that confidentiality is maintained at all times as per Caldicott and GDPR requirements.


Main duties of the job

  • Act as a key member of the Research Senior Leadership Team, contributing to and implementing the DCHFT Strategy for Research.
  • To line manage a team of clinical delivery staff.
  • In the collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team, the post-holder will oversee NIHR programmes of clinical research delivery (non-commercial and commercial) to ensure delivery to time and target including ensuring robust feasibility and proactive study performance management. This includes identifying barriers to patient recruitment and developing approaches to overcomes these barriers in a timely manner ensuring contractual obligations around study delivery and financial accountability are met and maintained.
  • To lead on specific projects/work streams and service development initiatives.
  • To participate in the expert care and support of patients who are taking part in research studies and clinical trials and ensure that they comply with ICH Good Clinical Practice standards and according to Research Governance standards.
  • To develop an appropriate clinical trials portfolio within the post-holder's clinical specialty having own patient case-load.

Person Specification

Education, Qualifications & Training

Essential

  • Registered Nurse/Midwife/AHP
  • Masters or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of recent CPD
  • Teaching/mentorship qualification


Desirable

  • Good Clinical Practice training


Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of 5 years relevant post-registration experience including a minimum of 1-2 years at Band 6 in a clinical research delivery setting
  • Understanding of professional clinical practice issues relating to research delivery
  • Significant experience of clinical research delivery and establishing research pathways within clinical practice setting
  • Knowledge and understanding of clinical governance and application to clinical practice
  • Knowledge and understanding of research governance and application to clinical practice
