We have an exciting opportunity within Neurosciences to join Ward R3 in the position of Sister/Charge Nurse working Monday- Friday.

Ward R3 is a busy and diverse outpatient Nurse led service, and is responsible for the smooth running of Neurosurgical, Neurology and Stroke clinics. It also provides an infusion service for the administration of intravenous medications for Neurology patients.

The nursing team supports and undertakes specialist treatments and investigations such as Neurosurgery pre-operative assessment, lumbar punctures, muscle biopsies, and botulinum toxin injections.

You will demonstrate the ability to work autonomously as well as within a small nursing team, perform well under pressure and be motivated to provide a high level of nursing care.

Experience in Neurosciences and/or an infusion setting is desirable. IV administration and cannulation competence is essential.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for high standards of nursing care in all areas of the unit and work closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team ensuring that effective, high quality care is maintained.

Using clinical expertise and following appropriate training undertake procedures as required such as cannulation, phlebotomy, lumbar punctures, botulinum injections and pre-operative assessment.

Provide appropriate health education for patients attending R3 and its services. Ensuring support is and education is offered relating to infusions.

Ensure that good quality information on all investigations and treatments undertaken is available for patients and their carers.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered nurse with significant previous experience in Neurosciences and/or an Infusion Service setting.
  • Evidence of maintaining professional portfolio.


Desirable

  • Mentoring qualification.
  • Immediate life support


Experience

  • Sound clinical practice.
  • Evidence of mentorship/preceptorship roles
  • Accept personal accountability for own practice.
  • Experience of autonomous working
  • Experience of formal/informal teaching
