We have two vacancies for this post which are currently in the male and female service line

An opportunity has arisen for a senior Occupational Therapist to join our well established and highly motivated team.

This post would also be suitable for a band 5 seeking a developmental package to band 6 who would be supported by our newly established competencies programme. Band 5 applicants would be required to have 1 years experience post graduate. Applicant would be initially employed as a band 5 progressing to band 6 over a period of 6 - 18 months depending on achieving required competencies.

We are looking for an individual who is enthusiastic, compassionate and motivated. There is great team work within Guild Lodge and you will be working alongside staff and service users to promote the importance of occupation and meaningful activities as part of an individual's recovery journey.

Main duties of the job

You will be involved in the maintenance and further development of the Occupational Therapy Service working alongside a wider occupational therapy department, which provides assessment and treatment for all the service lines within Guild Lodge (Womens, Men's & Acquired Barin Injury).

Your role will include the coordination, implementation of tailored specific treatment programmes for your own caseload - as well as supervising a range of staff and students. We offer excellent facilities - ranging from ward based involvement, to a custom built therapeutic resources centre (with a range of facilities including a sports hall and gym), a vocational rehabilitation facility a social centre, as well as accessing the community.

Lancashire and South Cumbria Care NHS Foundation Trust is a Community and Mental Health Trust whose services include mental health and substance misuse services to the residents of Lancashire and South Cumbria. The Trust also provides low and medium secure care and forensic services.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Diploma/BSC (Hons) in Occupational Therapy (OT)
  • State registered with Health Care Professionals Council
  • Post Graduate training relevant to mental health work in appropriate speciality
  • Documented evidence of continuing professional development (CPD)
  • Practice Placement Qualification (Undergraduate OT student educator) within 1 year of appointment
Knowledge Essential
  • Detailed knowledge of how mental & physical health problems impact on occupational performance and how occupational therapy theory informs practice within low and medium secure mental health setting.
  • Knowledge of current best practice in low and medium secure settings , and awareness of relevant government directives and legislation
  • Specialist knowledge and application of OT assessments and interventions using expert level clinical reasoning.
  • Ability to work autonomously and set own and others priorities.
  • Ability to devise specialist interventions to address occupational dysfunction to improve occupational performance.
  • Sophisticated reasoning skills to analyse professional and ethical issues.
Experience Essential
  • 18 month post registration experience with at least six months in setting which has developed directly transferable skills relevant to mental health care.
  • Familiarity with audit processes
  • Extensive clinical experiences including individual and group work in mental health specialties
  • Physical health experience
