At UHBW, the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre (BHOC) and Weston General Hospital provides specialist non-surgical treatments for people with cancer, and for people who do not have cancer but require specialist radiotherapy or haematology services. The specialities include oncology, haematology, TYA, clinical psychology and palliative and supportive care. As well as being the cancer treatment centre for Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset, we provide specialist services to people from across the South West.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the post of Assistant General Manager (AGM).The role will support the General Manager and be responsible for managing teams to provide the day to day services as well as have key project, performance, governance, business planning, strategic and transformational responsibilities. This is a key position within the trust's management structure and will need to be highly visible acting as the key management link with clinical teams.

Main duties of the job

This role is essential to the delivery of a high quality service to patients, consultants and clinical teams. Weare looking for someone with significant operational management experience, strong service improvementand project management skills as well as proven experience of achieving key performance targets withinthe NHS. As you will be working closely with the clinical and divisional teams you will need excellentcommunication and negotiation skills and the confidence to engage with consultants and senior staff,challenge practice and make decisions, taking responsibility for their outcomes. This is a key position withinthe Division and you will need to be experienced, flexible and have a can do attitude, deputising for theGeneral Manager as required. You will be well supported both by the management team and the widerDivision with the opportunity to progress your personal development needs.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Significant operational service management
  • Experience of people management
  • Financial management including planning and balancing budgets
  • Change management
  • Service Improvement experience including use of recognised techniques
  • Knowledge and understanding of health care relating to area of responsibility

  • Previous NHS experience

Skills and abilities

  • Sound understanding of NHS structures and financial flows
  • Ability to work effectively with clinical teams
  • Highly effective communicating, negotiating and influencing skills
  • Intermediate data analysis skills with advanced Excel skills
  • Ability to manage own workload and that of others in a highly pressurised environment
  • ECDL or equivalent including key board skills
  • In-depth knowledge of key performance targets


Qualifications and training

Essential

  • Relevant post-graduate qualification or equivalent level of experience working at senior level
  • Evidence of formal Management training
  • Evidence of significant CPD in public sector or healthcare management

  • Project Management training or qualification
