Due to maternity leave, an opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Maxillofacial Prosthetist/Reconstructive Scientist, to join our busy team for a period of 12 months.

The service supports numerous departments within the trust and surrounding areas though the manufacture of a vast range of prostheses, appliances and splints. These include osseo-integrated facial prostheses, cranioplasties, CMF trauma splints, digital oncological and orthognathic planning, breast prostheses, and many more.

UHCW is a large recently built hospital and a major trauma centre with excellent transport links. The prosthetics department is based in the heart of outpatients and features modern well equipped laboratories, a dedicated clinic room and digital planning suite.

Main duties of the job

  • To deliver a clinical, scientific and advisory services to patients undergoing reconstructive procedures or rehabilitation using implants, splints and prostheses
  • To provide specialist advice and consultancy on maxillofacial prosthetic issues
  • To participate in stock control and ordering of department consumables
  • To contribute to departmental and initiate own research and development programmes
  • To participate in teaching for the units MPT training programme
  • To support and deputise for the Consultant Maxillofacial Prosthetist as required

Job description

Job responsibilities

1.To deliver a clinical, technical service to patients undergoing reconstructive procedures or rehabilitation using implants, splints and prostheses. To liaise with team members and schedule of patients clinical appointments and surgical procedures. To be responsible for organising own clinical sessions. Quality control of work produced within the patient environment. 2.To provide clinical and technical support and liaise with multi-disciplinary teams. 3.Coordinate and arrange treatment plans, timetabling of clinical/ technical procedures, discharge from care, referring on/back of individual cases i.e. Referral to ENT/ Plastics, outreach care, support services etc. Participate in patient case conferences/meetings. 4.To include carrying out invasive procedures in the clinic or operating theatre within specified restraints i.e. Complex sectional impressions. Fitting tissue/prosthetic abutments to osseointegrated implant fixtures. Modification of appliances during surgery.
