We are seeking skilled and compassionate individuals to join the new NHS Children and Young People's Gender Service (London) in the role of Specialist Clinical /Counselling /Applied Psychologist. This could be on a full time or part time basis, permanent or a secondment. Please specify in your supporting information your preferred options.

This is a round of recruitment specifically aimed at clinical and counselling psychologists who are due to qualify in September 2024. In order to be considered, you must:

• Have completed and passed all elements of your training (exams, coursework, placements, etc) with the exception of:
• For Clinical Psychology Trainees, their final placement
• For counselling psychologists who have met all their training competencies in one placement, their final placement review
• Be on track for submission of your doctoral thesis as per your course requirement

In exceptional circumstances, we will consider applications who have had an unforeseen delay in the completion of their doctoral thesis but are on track for the completion of all other elements of their doctoral programme.

Main duties of the job

Practitioner Health and Educational Psychologists will also be considered for this role if they are able to demonstrate significant experience within a CYP mental health setting and document the equivalent level of training in an appropriate therapeutic model, either as a core part of training, additional qualification or substantial number of short courses.

The post holder will provide a specialist psychology service to the NHS Children and Young People's Gender Service (London), including specialist assessment, treatment, planning, implementation and monitoring of outcomes. Applicants should have experience of delivering high quality, evidence-based care to children and young people.

Following the recommendations of The Cass Review Interim Report, two new nationally networked services led by specialist children's tertiary care providers are being established. The Southern Hub, based in London, is delivered by a partnership of Evelina London Children's Hospital (part of Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust), Great Ormond Street Hospital and the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.

The Northern Hub is delivered by a partnershipof Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital (part of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust). This role is based in the Southern Hub.

Children and young people will receive an in-depth assessment of their needs,and a care plan will be developed with them and, if needed, those supporting them. Children and young people may be offered a range of care interventions such astherapy, family therapy,physical healthsupport, or mental health supportfor any identified difficulties they may want help with. Theteam will also liaise with health professionals in local services nearer to the child or young person.

It is expected that the NHS Children and Young Peoples Gender Service will continue to change and evolve as more learning, research and evidence is developed in this area, and therefore we would encourage applications from individuals with a passion for service improvement, audit and research.

Academic/Professional qualification/Training

Essential

• oEntry-level qualification in Applied Psychology (professional Doctorate, or combination of MSc plus PG Diploma level additional training) that has been accepted by the HCPC for purposes of professional registration. -Clinical psychologist: Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or equivalent -Counselling psychologist: Doctorate or MSc and PG Diploma in Counselling Psychology
• oRegistered with the HCPC as Practitioner Psychologist.

Experience/Knowledge

Essential

• oExperience of receiving clinical supervision across a range of client needs
• oExperience of psychological assessment and treatment of clients with a range of psychological needs of a complex nature relevant to the needs of CYP with Gender Diversity
• oExperience that supports working with, and addressing issues of, diversity within local communities. This may have been gained through work, research, volunteering and / or lived experience.
• oExperience of developing and carrying out research projects.
• oTheoretical knowledge of psychopathology and the evidence base for the relevant treatment of mental health conditions common in young people with gender diversity
• oKnowledge of psychological assessment and clinical psychometrics.
