An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Nutrition and Dietetic department at Bedford Hospital as a fixed term part time dietitian specialising in oncology. We have funding for 22.5 hours but can be flexible to suit your needs if less hours are desired.

The role has the flexibility to be either based at Bedford Hospital, remote working or a combination of both. The community team have full access to remote working, with all patient notes on SystmOne. You will receive a laptop and mobile phone to support remote working.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide highly specialist dietetic input for patients within North and Mid Bedfordshire who are under the care of the Bedford oncology service at the Macmillan Primrose Unit. This service encompasses all tumour sites including upper gastrointestinal, hepato-pancreato-biliary, head and neck, lung, colorectal, breast, bladder, gynaecological and haematological. Patients will be supported prior to, during and post treatment in line with the survivorship and rehabilitation agenda.

The post holder will also provide support for less experienced dietitians and dietetic assistant practitioners. This is a highly specialist role and requires excellent time management skills.

Job responsibilities

1. To manage a highly complex caseload of oncology patients at the Macmillan Primrose unit, endoscopy unit, local hospices and in the North and Mid Bedfordshire community.

2. To attend and contribute to relevant MDT clinics to support patients prior to and post-surgery, prior to, during and post chemotherapy or radiotherapy.

3. To provide a highly specialist dietetics service to consultant-led outpatient clinics.
