An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Research Nurse to join the award-winning St John's Institute of Dermatology based at Guy's Hospital, which aims to better understand fundamental disease mechanisms over time and then identify when and how best to intervene.

The internationally leading research programme includes multi-centre observational studies involving longitudinal clinical data and biological sample collections, as well as interventional studies. The Institute runs the largest skin bioresource in the UK, providing immediate access to data and samples for research.

You will work as part of and be supported by a large and well established multi-disciplinary research team with a strong track record of producing high impact, translational research.

The post will be based at Guy's Hospital. However, it is a requirement of your employment that you be prepared to work at additional locations according to the needs of the projects.

Main duties of the job

To screen, coordinate and recruit eligible patients, carry out clinical tasks such as venepuncture, and ECG, meticulously record various data points and deliver interventions according to specific study protocols. You will be responsible for data entry, ensuring patient safety and maintaining high levels of quality assurance expected at GSTT. You will also be involved in the set-up of new trials and will be required to work within multidisciplinary teams to deliver excellent quality clinical research.

Work extends from genetic discovery through to a comprehensive portfolio of clinical trials (phase II onwards) and biomarker-enabled precision medicine. Person Specification

Qualification/ Education

Essential

  • RN1 / RN2 Registered Nurse on the NMC Register
  • Professional knowledge acquired at degree level and supplemented by specialist training
  • Evidence of ongoing commitment to professional development and staying current with advancements in clinical research and nursing practices


Desirable

  • GCP certificate
  • HTA certificate


Previous experience

Essential

  • Experience of working as a qualified nurse with previous NHS experience for at least 2 years.
  • Experience in Clinical Research


Desirable

  • Experience of electronic data capture
  • Experience teaching, assessing and supervising others in clinical setting


Skills/ Knowledge/ Ability

Essential

  • Proficient to conduct clinical tasks including venepuncture & cannulation, serial sampling, ECG and administration of S/C, IM and IV drugs
  • Ability to process biologic samples according to protocols.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to deal with complex and sensitive situations
  • Proficiency with electronic health records and MS Office tools (Word, Excel)


Desirable

  • Capital Nurse IV Therapy Passport
  • Competency in skin biopsy

  • Willingness and ability to travel to external sites / meetings within the context of this post
