Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit a full-time locum Consultant Psychiatrist. This post is based in Tameside and the service here operates in a sectorised model and is staffed by 3 wte Sector Consultants in Older People Psychiatry and one in Memory Service and Older People Liaison. Each Consultant is allocated a Junior Doctor (NW Deanery training schemes) to work with them

This is an exciting time to join the Trust and there are many opportunities to contribute to the organisations' development and to look at service redesign models. Tameside has a very strong teaching commitment and candidates will be expected to contribute to the teaching of medical and nursing staff and 4th medical students. There are close links with ongoing research projects. The Consultants contribute to local service user & carer groups.

Main duties of the job

To provide high-quality Mental Health Care for older people with severe and enduring mental health problems both inpatient and outpatients.To work closely with other teams and Consultants to ensure coherent and high-quality mental health care for older people with severe and enduring mental health problems within the Tameside area.To work with the other Consultants to support the development of the service, and to attend local and divisional service development meetings.Applicants must be on the GMC's Specialist Register or eligible for inclusion or be within six months' of the anticipated award of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Older People Psychiatry at the time of interview for the post.

Job responsibilities

Pennine Care NHS Trust was formed in 2002 and provides specialist mental health services to the Metropolitan Boroughs of Bury, Rochdale, Oldham, Tameside and Stockport, serving a total population of approximately 1.3million.

This Consultant post in Old Age Psychiatry is one of four Consultant posts serving the elderly population of Tameside and Glossop. The four posts have been carefully balanced regarding population, morbidity and non-clinical workload. This post covers a mixed urban and rural catchment area.

Person Specification

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • MBChB or equivalent
  • Full registration with the GMC
  • CCT or within six months of achieving this


Desirable

  • Degree, such as MSc or MD.
  • MRCPsych


ELIGIBILITY

Essential

  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment


Desirable

  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice


TRANSPORT

Essential

  • Holds and will use valid UK driving licence OR provides evidence of proposed alternative


CLINICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Excellent knowledge in specialty
  • Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
  • Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others
  • Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA


Desirable

  • Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service


ACADEMIC SKILLS & LIFELONG LEARNING

Essential

  • Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training
  • Ability to work in and lead team
