To provide robust and credible specialist continence nursing care under the direction of the

Continence nurse specialist and the service manager.

To provide evidence-based holistic care to patients/carers with promotion of continence needs across the Boroughs of Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster.

In conjunction with the Community Nursing Services to contribute to planning and developing of educational initiatives for internal and external partners such as District Nursing and Residential/Nursing home teams and primary care.

To work with the service lead to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of how the service is managed within allocated budget.

To ensure contractual obligations are met in line with commissioners' intentions

To work in line with Trust Policies and Procedures and NMC Scope of professional practice and Conduct.

Main duties of the job

To assess, treat and review clients with bladder and or bowel dysfunction according to NICE Guidelines relating to bladder and bowel dysfunction

To actively participate in the teaching and support of junior staff and act as a preceptor for new staff in the team and /or locality .
  • To perform investigations including ultrasound bladder scanning, urine testing, uroflowmetry, Digital Rectal Examination and pelvic floor muscle assessment demonstrating and maintaining competence at a specialist level

  • To maintain appropriate and up to date knowledge and skills by undertaking continuing education in accordance with personal and service needs.
  • To maintain clinical competence and expertise by keeping up to date with current research through self-directed learning and attending professional study days and conferences
  • To participate in research and audit activities to promote safe practice


Person Specification

Education

Essential

  • oDiploma or Degree in Nursing
  • oRegistration with Health & Care Professionals Council.
  • oEither have or working towards Post graduate Qualification or study in Continence Management.


Desirable

  • oMentorship training
  • oHas undertaken formal training in staff and team Management
  • oTeaching or Training Qualification


Experience

Essential

  • oExperience of developing/training other colleagues
  • oExperience of supervising the practice of junior colleagues
  • oEvidence of promoting continence in own practice
  • oExtensive experience of working as a Band 5 in a continence service
  • oExperience of Continence management.
  • oExperience of running community continence clinics
  • oExperience in establishing or developing audit and standards including using outcome measures.


Desirable

  • o1 year's community care experience
  • oExperience in multi-Agency working.
  • oExperience in supervising staff.
