We are looking for an exceptional individual to lead our student midwives at Whipps Cross hospital Barts Health NHS Trust. You will join the existing post holders at Whipps Cross and Newham Hospitals to support the delivery student midwife education to enable the provision of compassionate high quality clinical care in Barts Health.
You will be responsible for working with our mentors and HEIs to support the education and development of our student midwives, identifying and addressing their education needs, enabling them to successfully complete their training programme fit for purpose and practice. You will work closely with the education teams and senior midwifery colleagues to maintain high clinical standards within the unit.
The role has a strong clinical focus and therefore you will be able to demonstrate expertise in intrapartum care and specifically the use of NICE guidance and expert knowledge of key obstetric emergencies and fetal monitoring.
You must have studied at degree level or equivalent with a minimum of 2 years of midwifery experience at band 7 level and have worked as a practice assessor and supervisor, providing teaching and mentoring support for students.
Main duties of the job
The role of midwifery Clinical Placement Facilitator is to lead the education and development of all student midwives within maternity services and other learning environments. The individual will work collaboratively and strategically with the Practice Development Midwife and the Whipps education team, maternity lecturers in linked HEI's, the Trust Education team and the senior midwifery team to ensure clinical teaching is of the highest standard. The post holder must be an effective communicator able to confidently deliver lectures and presentations. They must have the skills to support midwives in facilitating student learning in practice. The post holder will need to have effective organisational and management skills to facilitate the needs of various student groups in practice.
