Our forward thinking, dynamic, home ventilation Service has an exciting opportunity available for a full time Clinical Nurse Specialist. This is a permanent post.

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a large, innovative Team within Critical Care at Guy's & St Thomas' Foundation Trust. We require energetic, self-motivated and innovative individuals who are passionate about home ventilation and who are willing to push the professional boundaries to develop an exceptional service for our patients.

As a tertiary referral centre, the critical care division prides itself in being nationally and internationally renowned for its services, quality of staff and academic departments.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Nurse Specialist Band 7, in the Lane Fox Unit Home Ventilation Team.

You should be a RGN with significant experience at a senior level caring for Level 2/3 patients, be able to demonstrate excellence in their clinical HDU/ITU Skills. Extensive knowledge of invasive & non invasive ventilation is essential to this role, with an understanding of tracheostomy management and care.Previous experience of working within an outreach team managing complex ventilated patients in the community is desirable.

You must hold a full UK driving license and be able to travel to destinations within the South East region

Applicants must have: ITU /HDU course, or equivalent critical careExtensive clinical leadership/team management experienceExpert skills in caring for both Level 2 and Level 3 patientsA Degree or equivalent level of education and experience

Job responsibilities

  • To work autonomously, managing a caseload of patients within the specialty whilst working as part of the multidisciplinary team, delivering individualised and personalised direct patient care
  • Be responsible for assessing and recognising emergencies in the speciality. To interpret information and take appropriate action and to lead others to do the same.
  • Co-ordinate the provision of specialist services to patients, both within hospital and/or in the community setting, effectively liaising with multidisciplinary colleagues
  • Act as patient advocate when appropriate, respecting patient confidentiality and privacy with respect for diverse cultural backgrounds and requirements.
  • Establish, develop and maintain effective working relationship between clinicians, practitioners and managers within the specialty, across the Trust and in the community

  • Current NMC registration & Pin Number
  • Extensive team leadership / team mangement experience
  • ITU/HDU Qualification
  • Teaching Qualification

  • BSc 1st Degree(health related)or equivalent qualification/ experience
