Main duties of the job

Southampton Children's Hospital is looking to recruit a dynamic, enthusiastic paediatric nurse to come and join our paediatric endocrine service. You will be providing specialist endocrine care in a large tertiary centre working alongside the Nursing team lead and 3 other paediatric endocrine nurses specialists.

The Endocrine clinical nurse specialists are an integral part of the Endocrine team and play a pivotal role in providing the day to day care for patients and their families. You will be involved in all aspects of endocrine management within inpatients, outpatients, dynamic endocrine testing and developing nurse led clinics. The post holder will also be expected to support the regional clinics, offering expert knowledge and advice. This is a small, friendly and inclusive team. We encourage regular clinical supervision and will support with opportunities for ongoing development and leadership experience.

Job responsibilities

Responsibilities To develop, improve, and promote the service ensuring the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective care utilising the support and guidance of senior colleagues. Develop and share expertise within the multidisciplinary team. Helping to ensure effective communication within the MDT. Provide patients and staff with specialist advice to manage complex symptoms. To develop the skills to act as a resource in the care of patient's needs, ensuring an optimum level of service to patients and their carers. Work closely with community and relevant network, other hospital and community staff to ensure an effective seamless service. To provide effective communication with patients and families. Ensure that all patients and families are aware of all treatment options, including clinical trials. Work as patient advocate, to help negotiate the patient journey and ensure optimum care is provided to each patient. To develop links with other organisations providing support and information. To adhere to infection control guidelines and procedures.

What experience/skills are needed

We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic paediatric nurse with a minimum of three years post qualifying experience in a relevant area.

Masters level specialist training is preferred or a willingness to work towards this.

Post holder must have the ability to work within the MDT, whilst being self motivated, with good organisational skills and an ability to prioritise their workload.

This post requires the holder to be flexible with their working days and hours. Working days vary depending on clinical need and clinical pressures / location of regional clinics can mean later finishes or early starts.

The post holder must have a full UK driving license and have access to a vehicle.

  • Registered nurse on relevant part of the NMC register
  • Level 7 Post Grad Cert (Min 60 Credits), Master's Degree within relevant speciality or equivalent knowledge to be assessed through evidence of relevant speciality training, experience or portfolio
  • Specialist training / Qualification in area of practice
  • Provide evidence of leading learning in practice
  • Evidence of experience and completion of all band 6 competencies within relevant speciality
  • Specialist clinical skills and experience within specialist area
  • Evidence of change Management, leadership and innovation
  • Clinical experience at Band 6 or equivalent within relevant speciality
  • Provide evidence of supporting colleagues to promote learning in practice providing an excellent learning environment for all
