The Clinical Research Department at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust (NCIC) employs a number of staff working on a portfolio of research studies across a range of clinical specialities, recruiting over 1500 patients into research studies annually.

Applications are sought from highly motivated individuals with a nursing background to support the delivery of a portfolio of clinical trials and other research studies. The successful applicant will be expected to work across a range of clinical specialties in both the acute and community settings. This post will work primarily with our Parkinson's and neurology services, but may also include cardiovascular, acute medicine, anaesthetics, surgery, sexual health and other community services. The post holder will work closely with the local Clinicians, Clinical Departments, fellow Research Nurses/Practitioners, Administrators, Researcher Team Leaders and R& D Manager in developing and maintaining the research infrastructure to support, promote and organise patient recruitment, education and monitoring of trial patients and the collection and documentation of accurate data.

This post involves patient contact and does not involve laboratory activities. Excellent communication and good diplomacy skills are required as well as developed organisational, time management and computer skills. Travel to multiple sites will be required.

Main duties of the job

To assist with, or take the lead on in own specialist area, the setup and C& C process for studies.

To recruit participants to research studies through liaison with local research networks and clinical teams

To obtain valid informed consent to take part in research studies, providing complex verbal and written information in the process of explaining study involvement.

Liaise with the sponsor CRAs and/or monitors during the conduct of a trial under the advisement of more senior Clinical Research Nurses/ Practitioners

To collect research data through standardised assessment measures completed with participants.

To maintain Trust records and any trial databases and, ensuring entries are complete, accurate and up-to-date in accordance with the Trust policies, the protocol and Good Clinical Practice guidelines

At least 75% of time will be spent on the above responsibilities/tasks
