Main duties of the job

As Clinical Lead, the post holder will work autonomously taking responsibility for care, quality and clinical activity by providing specialist professional nursing leadership and guidance, clinical advice and management in relation to the key dimensions of health care quality:

The effectiveness of all health care interventions

Patient experience

The environment in which care is delivered

As Clinical Lead, the post holder will provide a specialised role in the development and implementation of services and care pathways for adults with mental health problems within the relevant framework/modelfor service delivery.

It is expected the role will continue to develop in line with national and local initiatives, alongside the Community Mental Health Framework

The post holder will work as an integral part of the team with a specialist role in the development and implementation of services and care pathways. They will provide clinical leadership, supervision and support to colleagues. They will work with the Team Manager to review and implement national and local guidance, and service innovations.

The post holder will ensure the delivery of a clinically effective service which meets the needs of service users and their families in line with local and national development plans, Trust policies and procedures.

The post holder will demonstrate an attitude which respects and values service users' and their carers.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree or Equivalent
  • Post Registration Qualification
  • Leadership or Management Qualification or willingness to work towards or equivalent relevant experience
  • Core professional qualification in : registered nurse, social work, Occupational therapy, Clinical Psychology
  • Up to date Professional Registration (to be maintained)


Desirable

  • Evidence of continuing professional development within the last 12 months
  • Hold an NMC approved and/or other recognised mentoring qualification


Knowledge/Experience

Essential

  • To be able to demonstrate understanding of current developments in the NHS and in relevant area of practice and their implications for leadership and quality care for services users
  • Knowledge of Mental Health Act
  • Knowledge of own skill limitations and when to seek advice/support
  • Self-motivating in pursuance of specialist knowledge
  • Interpersonal skills of the highest level to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, in order to convey complex and clinically sensitive information to family members of all ages and to a wide range of lay and professional persons, both inside and outside of the NHS
  • Demonstrate the ability to coordinate and lead a multi-agency care plan / risk management plan
  • Knowledge of research design and methodology consistent with systemic practice to at least Masters level or equivalent
  • Knowledge of legislation and strategic frameworks and their implications for both clinical practice and professional management in relation to the full range of service user groups
  • Knowledge of key government and local policy developments which shape and influence the direction of NHS services in the relevant area of practice
  • Significant post registration experience as a senior nurse / practitioner in relevant area of practice
  • Demonstrates motivation and commitment to providing high quality care and education to service users and their families
  • Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for service user's care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified care co - ordinator and also within the context of a multi -disciplinary care plan
  • Experience in field and relevant area of practice of specialist mental health and/or learning disability assessments and therapeutic interventions with service users with mental health and/or learning disability and their families
  • Highly skilled in the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, complex, highly technical and /or clinical sensitive information to service user's, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS
  • Experience of delivering teaching, training and supervision
  • Experience in consultation to other professional and non -professional groups
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of patient groups that reflect the full range of clinical severity including a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse
  • Experienced in and the ability to provide case management supervision within their field and relevant area of practice to staff, students and other service groups/ team professionals as required
