An exciting opportunity has arisen for a speech therapist to join our Health Youth Justice Team. This post would be suitable for Band 5 looking to develop skills into a Band 6 role or an experienced Band 6 looking to work in the specialist area of youth justice.
The Children's Health Youth Justice Team provides a Speech and Language Therapy Service, physical health and mental health support consistent with professional standards to children and young people (CYP) with communication, physical and mental health difficulties accessing support through the Youth Offending Service (YOS). This includes CYP with learning disabilities and/or complex needs in homes, YOS offices, community clinics, education settings and mainstream/special schools.The team offers a wide range of clinical assessments and provides interventions to young people accessing the youth justice system. These are determined by specialist care pathways and offer direct support to CYP, their families, education, health and social care and Youth offending service colleagues. We are a countywide Team, and the post holder will be required to work flexibly across the county undertaking the role of Speech & Language Therapist (SLT) as needed to meet service demands. As this role is countywide and requires flexibility and independent travel the successful candidate will be a car driver with the facility to have Business Insurance on their vehicle.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide a Speech and Language Therapy Service to children and Young People aged 10-18 years old with communication difficulties who are known to the Youth Offending Service. They will also be required to manage a diverse caseload independently with regular formal supervision. The post holder will be required to work in partnership with others e.g., parents, carers, Youth Offending Service, teachers, other health professionals to ensure positive outcomes for children and young people.
They will provide specialist assessment, diagnosis, and management plan of Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) and other associated language learning and communication impairments. They will be a key member of the Health Youth Justice Team and be knowledgeable and experienced in assessing and working with children and young people with additional complex needs that may impact on their language development such as physical needs, Social Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) and neurodiversity.
