Main duties of the job

As one of 15 HINs across England, we connect and support academics, NHS, industry and others to bring fresh energy to old problems, inspire new thinking, and adopt innovative practices at scale.

We are seeking two highly organised and proactive Business Support Assistants to demonstrate a wide ranging skill set including highly developed administration skills, excellent IT skills, event planning and designing visually appealing media to support the corporate business and programme functions. The post holder will be responsible for contributing to the delivery of a range of corporate services, projects and events across Wessex to meet the innovation adoption agenda.

They will need to be experienced and confident in exercising initiative, diplomacy and confidentiality in communicating at all levels, both internally and across a wide range of stakeholders.

Health Innovation Wessex (HIW) is a company limited by guarantee, owned by the NHS and universities, hosted by University Hospital Southampton.

Based at Southampton Science Park in Chilworth in a bright modern office easily accessible from the M3, M27 and Southampton Parkway train station, the location offers free parking with a caf area and networking spaces on site. 27 acres of the Science Park site are designated a protected Conservation Area and open to staff.

Job responsibilities

We are an ambitious organisation, looking for passionate and motivated people to join us with a proven track record of delivery. You will need a tenacity to succeed, great communication skills, an ability to build new relationships quickly, and creative design skills in order to produce visually appealing, branded documentation. We welcome applications from people with a wide range of past experiences whether that be clinical / NHS or from industry / private sector. Secondments considered.

You will be part of a small and friendly Business Support team, supporting the corporate and programme functions across the organisation. The role is wide and varied, therefore being adaptable and flexible to business needs is a key asset.

Person Specification

Qualifications / training required

Essential

  • Degree or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline
  • Evidence of ongoing personal development


Desirable

  • Project Management training (e.g. PRINCE II)
  • Knowledge of the specialist work relevant to Health Innovation Wessex
  • Knowledge and experience of the NHS and local health and care service functions


Previous or relevant experience necessary

Essential

  • Experience with high level competency in IT, with the ability to quickly adapt to new technologies, including demonstrating first class knowledge of Microsoft 365 Office / Teams/ Excel/ PowerPoint/ Word/ Forms or any other alternative applications
  • Experience of organising and managing meetings/events including face to face, virtual or hybrid
  • Experience of effectively prioritising and managing a varied and demanding workload to meet urgent deadlines
  • Experience in corporate/business administration, including establishing business processes and drafting Standard Operating Procedures
  • Experience of producing accurate records of meetings / actions


Desirable

  • Experience in creating and designing visually appealing, branded documentation using software such as Canva/Adobe
  • Experience of project management including completing project documentation/reports
