As a Sister / Charge Nurse you will provide daily clinical and managerial leadership to nursing and support staff in the delivery of evidence based practice. Actively support the Unit Manager in the effective running of the department including in their absence.

The post holder is responsible for the assessment of patient care needs and development, devising, implementing and evaluating programmes of care, both for a specific group of patients as the named care provider and in supporting the care of all patients. As well as co-ordinating the shift.

Main duties of the job

Establish and maintain effective communication with patient/carers and families about complex matters providing a warm welcoming and enabling environment to support therapeutic relationships

Develop specialist knowledge, in Dementia and the assessment of the older person, underpinned by theory

Assess, plan, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of nursing care and adjust the programmes of care where indicated along with maintaining the health, safety and security of self and others in own work area

Contribute to the development of services

Contribute to quality improvement daily

Support patients, carers and staff in equality, and diversity

Lead others in the development of knowledge, ideas, and workplace practice

Plan, allocate, assess and provide feedback to team members

Maintain and support the efficient use of physical and /or financial resources

Be responsible for your own small, allocated staff team to complete appraisals, wellbeing conversations, and any risk assessments that are required

You will practice in accordance with the professional, ethical, and legal framework for nursing

Ability to work flexibly and unsocial hours to meet the demands of the service 7 days a week

This vacancy is open to those who have a current NMC PIN to practice as an Registered Nurse or Midwife in the UK, or those who are currently enrolled on a course which means they expect to receive their full NMC PIN within the next 3 months. Please note an NMC PRN PIN is not a full NMC PIN and would not fulfil the essential criteria for this role.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration (Part 1 Adult / General Level 1 or 2)
  • Degree / diploma in nursing studies(or equivalent nursing qualification and experience)
  • Substantial years post qualification experience in relevant clinical area


Desirable

  • Demonstrate initiative to proactively problem solve with a solution focus
  • Evidence of mentorship qualification


Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience on medical ward
  • Previous dementia experience


Desirable

  • Experience of the use of clinical systems


Skills

Essential

  • Ability to coordinate your workload and supervise members of the team, ensuring high quality, safe and effective patient care


Desirable

  • Ability to use reflective practice, to continuously improve the standard of patient care
