We are 10 bedded Intensive Care Unit in aUniversity Teaching Hospital managing patients requiring Level 2 and 3 care, including the treatment and transfer of adult and paediatric patients for specialist management. Main duties of the job

No previous critical care experience is required to become part of our dynamic and friendly team.

We provide a structured education strategy to help individuals to gain the knowledge and skills required to become a critical care nurse.

This includes an induction programme of up to 6 weeks in-house teaching and supervision. You will be required to complete a 1-year online Foundation programme, in line with the National Step 1 Competency Framework. Following the completion of the Foundation programme, you will also be able to access clinical teaching and leadership opportunities across the Trust and will be fully supported to undertake a Level 6/7 recognised Critical Care Qualification.

To ensure that individual programmes of care are planned, delivered and measured in order that critically ill patients receive a high quality nursing service.

To ensure that all lines of communication are identified and used effectively and to maintain a high standard of nursing care within the framework of Trust and national standards.

To make a thorough assessment of the patients needs according to an agreed model of nursing care.

Qualifications and knowledge

Essential

  • Registered General Nurse
  • Competent in drug calculation as assessed at interview
  • Awareness of NHS policies
  • Awareness of infection control issues
  • Understanding of Health and Safety in the workplace


Desirable

  • Practice supervisor/ assessor in professional practice course or equivalent


Experience

Essential

  • Relevant post basic NHS experience in an acute setting immediately prior to application
  • Computer literate


Desirable

  • Experience working within critical care or HDU environment
  • Experience of working in a team
