Exciting opportunity for a newly qualified Band 7 Clinical Psychologist or an established Band 8A to join our hardworking, compassionate and flexible multi-disciplinary Starfish LD CAMHS Team based within an Outstanding CQC rated NHS Trust.
The team delivers a countywide service offering assessment and intervention for children and young people aged 5-18 with a diagnosed learning disability who are experiencing significant behavioural and/or mental health difficulties.
We are expanding our psychology provision and have two full-time posts available, covering Central and West, or Central and East localities (base is negotiable)
You will deliver psychologically informed practice including assessment, formulation and intervention.
You will have access to individual and peer supervision, plus weekly meetings to review psychology input across the service.
There will be opportunities to contribute to the supervision, teaching and training of other professionals within the team.
We work in close collaboration with the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of East Anglia and part of the role will include the opportunity to attend further training on the supervision of UEA Clinical Psychology Trainees and offer supervised placements.
You will utilise your research skills for audit, policy and service development, and dissemination of appropriate research evidence.

Main duties of the job
Your role will be varied and will include a range of assessment, formulation, and intervention skills. This will include direct and indirect work with the children and young people that we support, as well as their families and the professional networks involved in their care.
Your role will include bringing a psychologically informed perspective through consultation to the clinical team and external agencies.
You will work closely with the other Clinical Psychologists and Psychological Therapies Practitioners in the team to continue to support and develop psychological practice across the service. There will be opportunities to contribute to the supervision, teaching and training of other professionals within the team.
You will utilise your research skills for audit, policy and service development, and dissemination of appropriate research evidence. Further involvement in research can also be supported where appropriate to the needs of the service.

To provide specialist psychological assessment, formulation and intervention at the same time as offering advice and consultation on the psychological care of children and young people to non-psychologist colleagues and to other nonprofessional carers.
To act as lead specialist within the team on matters relating to psychology, cognitive impairment and learning, challenging behaviour and psychological approaches in mental health in children with learning disabilities.
To work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of each teams policies and procedures.
To utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within the area served by the teams.
Person Specification Experience Essential
- Experience of specialist psychological assessment of children and young people
- Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
- Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment, both as a care coordinator and also within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan
- Experience of representing psychology within the context of multi-disciplinary care
- Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different contexts
- Demonstrate further specialist training/experience through having received a minimum of 50 hours clinical supervision of working as a specialist clinical psychologist or an alternative agreed by the Head of Speciality
- Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision
- Experience of working within a multicultural framework
- Experience in the processes for safeguarding vulnerable children
- Experience in assessment and process for Domestic Violence

- Training in the supervision of clinical psychologists (inc. trainees)
- Chartered Clinical Psychologist
- Training in diagnostic assessment of Austic Spectrum Disorders e.g. DISCO, ADOS & ADI).
