We are seeking a dynamic and highly motivated Senior Sister/Charge Nurse to lead our acute Respiratory Ward on 515, which includes a specialist Respiratory Support Unit for higher dependency patients. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced nursing professional to take on a challenging and rewarding role within a fast-paced environment.

As the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse, you will be professionally responsible for ensuring the highest standards of care for our patients. You will manage all aspects of the ward, including performance, capacity, and health and safety, while also overseeing sickness management and succession planning.

In this role, you will lead a dedicated team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development. Your excellent communication skills will be essential in liaising with multidisciplinary teams and ensuring seamless patient care.

Main duties of the job

As the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse on our acute Respiratory Ward, you will lead a team of healthcare professionals, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care. Your daily responsibilities will include overseeing the clinical management of the ward, ensuring that all patients receive appropriate respiratory support, particularly in our specialist Respiratory Support Unit.

You will be responsible for managing staff performance, conducting regular appraisals, and addressing any issues related to sickness or absenteeism. Your role will also involve managing the ward's capacity, ensuring that patient flow is optimized, and that resources are utilized effectively.

In addition to your clinical duties, you will be a key player in maintaining health and safety standards on the ward, ensuring compliance with all relevant guidelines and protocols. Succession planning will also be a crucial part of your role, as you will be responsible for identifying and mentoring future leaders within your team.

  • *Registered Adult Nurse on NMC register

  • *Health care management / Leadership Qualification


Experience

Essential

  • *Professional Portfolio which demonstrates continuing professional development, evidence of ability to maintain professional registration
  • *Substantial relevant and recent clinical experience within a complex health care setting or Acute NHS setting working as a deputy Manager Band 6 position including the supervision and education of junior staff/ students .
  • *Can demonstrate understanding / experience / in practice based supervision / assessment as detailed in the Nursing & Midwifery Council ( NMC ) standards for student supervision and assessment
  • *Demonstrable current, recent experience of team leadership and management within the healthcare setting.
  • *Demonstrable understanding of the management responsibility for pay and non-pay resources associated with the clinical service.
  • *Evidence of effective multi-professional working.
  • *Experience of being a mentor
  • *Demonstration of a significant contribution to innovative practice or change management
