To take a lead role in MCA/DoLS within the Trust through staff support and training in line with the national and local MCA agenda's and adult safeguarding support in line with Kent and Medway Safeguarding Adults Board.
To support and guide staff on the application of MCA and DoLS, adult protection cases and work in partnership with all agencies providing safeguarding to vulnerable adults. Promote personalised and safe care as part of a prevention strategy. Promote effective responses when harm is detected. Use learning to improve prevention and protection. Empower patients to be heard and support informed consent, supporting the implementation of the Mental Capacity and Equality Act and Deprivation of liberty across the Trust
Main duties of the job
To provide training and support to frontline health professionals in relation to Mental Capacity (Amendment) Act (MCA), Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) and safeguarding adults, promoting good practice and ensure that staff are aware of their responsibilities in all settings.
To support and advise staff on issues related to Safeguarding Adults, with occasional attendance at strategy meetings and case conferences.
To participate in and lead working groups in order to achieve the Trust's Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards objectives.
Produce reports that evidence Trust performance against MCA, DoLS and safeguarding responsibilities.
Ensure that vulnerable adults and their relatives/carers are involved in decisions affecting their care and wellbeing and in service development. When relatives or carers are absent, ensure that advocacy is engaged in a timely manner.
Work with the Named Nurse for Safeguarding Adults & MCA Lead to devise, implement and update the Trust's Training Needs Analysis and Training Plan.
Participate in clinical supervision with practitioners involved in MCA & Safeguarding practice.
Promote equality, diversity, inclusion and impact of health inequalities within the Trust

- RN (Adult, MH or LD) or Midwife or Allied Health professional (HCPC) or RN (Child) with specific MCA / adult safeguarding focused experience
- Degree related to professional role

- Teaching qualification
- Best Interest Assessor with minimum 1-year experience or willingness to undertake training
Clinical Skills and Experience
Essential
- 3 years post qualification experience with 2 years experience working in safeguarding at Band 6 or above.
- Strong knowledge of the Mental Capacity (Amendment) Act 2019, Care Act 2014 and their application within an Acute setting
- Experience of designing and delivering MCA/safeguarding training
- Competent in assessing mental capacity and arranging and leading best interests meetings
- Demonstrate application of the 5 key principles of the MCA

- Awareness of case law relevant to MCA.
Governance

- Understanding of governance/risk and reporting systems and processes in organisational and multi-agency context.
