This is an exciting opportunity for a suitably Occupational Therapist to gain experience working with a busy but dynamic Assertive Outreach team.

The Gloucester and Forest of Dean Assertive Outreach Team provides comprehensive mental health and social care to working age adults in the Gloucester locality and the Forest of Dean.

We are seeking a motivated and innovative individual to join this enthusiastic, progressive and dynamic multi-disciplinary team. We can offer an opportunity to develop your skills and experience and to contribute to the development of a high quality service.

The team provides a planned needs lead 8am-8pm (core hours 9-5) seven days a week service (reduced hours at weekend). The hours are 37.5 per week with some evenings and weekend shifts (on a rotational shift system). 'Flexible' working arrangements will be considered. Any request will be set against genuine operational requirements and limitations and it is not obligatory for a manager to accede to the request.

Main duties of the job

o Provides specialist Occupational Therapy to service users with severe / complex mental health needso Provide evidence based, occupational therapy assessment and intervention to optimise the service user's ability to engage with their environment in line with the principles of social inclusion and / or recoveryo Contribute to the training and support of primary and secondary health care professionals, social care providers and families to assist them to better meet the needs of service users.

This post requires the post holder to be able to undertake all statutory and mandatory training and post holders must be able to undertake physical interventions. Fitness for physical intervention will be assessed by Occupational Health.

Person Specification Knowledge Essential
  • Degree / Diploma in Occupational Therapy
  • Health Care Profession Council (HCPC) Registration
  • Masters Level modules in Occupational Therapy
  • Clinical experience including working with people with a range of mental illness, substance misuse
Expereince Essential
  • Minimum on commencing role - undergraduate placement experience working with service users with severe / complex mental health needs
  • Full Driving Licence with use of own transport for business purposes. Willing to drive service users as appropriate
Expereince Essential
  • Accredited training in Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) / Model of Human Occupation tools, Sensory Integration and other evidenced approaches used relevant to the field
  • Knowledge and awareness of the needs of people with mental health and / or learning disabilities and commitment to client centred working practices
  • Experience in a range of mental health settings
  • Knowledge / experience of using MOHO assessments, sensory integration inventories and other relevant validated assessments and protocols
