An exciting opportunity has arisen in Hammersmith and Fulham CAMHS for a skilled and experienced Band 7 clinical or counselling psychologist to join the CCAMHS Team (Tier 2) in a full time, permanent contract 1.0 post.

The team is a large and growing multidisciplinary team, offering a range of targeted, early interventions to children and young people age 0-18 who are experiencing mild-moderate mental health difficulties.

The service is committed to broadening accessibility to ensure that robust, evidence based mental health support is accessible to all in the community and is offered in a timely way. Initiatives are being implemented to broaden access, including through the use of innovative digital tools as well as through embedding clinicians in community settings and developing relationships in community organisations such as youth groups, faith groups as well as in children's centres and GP settings.

The team is constantly evolving and developing an offer and there are opportunities for ongoing staff development and training.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will join an established multi-disciplinary CAMHS which is responsible for providing Tier 2 mental health services within the borough. The post holder will work in Hammersmith and Fulham Community CAMHS Team with young people aged 0- 18 years. The clinic setting is based in central Hammersmith and there may be some limited travel to other parts of the borough to attend community settings.

The post holder will provide mental health support and treatment for children and young people carrying out comprehensive assessments (including risk and the development of risk management plans) and offering specialist intervention packages using a variety of treatment models.

The current team consists of Child and Adolescent Psychotherapists, Systemic Family Therapists, Clinical and Counselling Psychologists, Social Workers, CBT Therapist and Children's Wellbeing Practitioners, providing multiple perspectives and allowing for MDT discussions.

Other aspects of the role include developing relationships with key partner agencies and community organisations working locally with children and young people, i.e. schools, GPs, social workers, community groups etc.

The role also encourages running groups, supervision spaces, supporting unqualified staff, working collaboratively across the wider CCAMS team, including Tier 3, NDLD and the Child and Family Team.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Training

Essential

  • Professional knowledge acquired through a degree-level qualification in one of the following: oNursing (RMN, RGN or RSCN) with additional therapeutic qualifications or equivalent experience oClinical or Counselling Psychology (eligible for chartered status) oSystemic Family Psychotherapy oChild & Adolescent Psychotherapy (eligible for full membership of the Association of Child Psychotherapists) oSocial Worker with additional therapeutic qualifications e.g. systemic family therapy or CYP IAPT trainings or equivalent experience This should be supplemented by other specialist training and short courses.
  • Current professional registration as applicable: the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC), Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC), Association of Child Psychotherapists (ACP) or The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)


Desirable

  • CYP IAPT Trainings, e.g. CBT, Systemic Family Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy [IPT], Under 5's, Parent Training.
  • Other post-graduate qualifications in: CBT, Systemic Foundation Years, EMDR, Mindfulness.
  • Mentalizing Trainings


Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience of working with children and adolescents in a mental health or equivalent settings.
  • Experience of multi-agency work.
  • Experience of working within a multicultural framework


Desirable

  • Experience of other treatment approaches.


Knowledge & Skills

Essential

  • Evidence base in relation to child mental health
  • Research and research methodology at post-graduate level in relation to children and adults with mental health and social problems.
  • The impact of abuse, trauma and other adverse experiences on children and families.
  • Legislation and DOH guidelines relevant to mental health.
  • Child protection policies and procedures
  • Child development in relation to mental health difficulties
  • Knowledge of other modalities (i.e. psychoanalytical, medical, behavioural etc.) sufficient to engage appropriately with multidisciplinary team colleagues and their work with clients/patients.
  • Skills in working with children and families with mental health and social problems using a variety of therapeutic approaches.


Desirable
