This role is an integral role in the delivery of Mersey Care's Green Plan. Reporting to the Environment and Sustainability Lead for the Trust this will be a vital role in ensuring that the day to operations of the Trust are submitting to the goals of the Green Plan. This is a developing team and there will be great opportunities to develop this role and paly a part in the on going structure of the Team.
Main duties of the job
The Environmental Officer will support the Sustainability Manager in implementing the Trust's environmental, waste and sustainability objectives and targets. They will assist with ensuring members of staff are aware of waste disposal procedures, environmental legislative and sustainable development issues that relate to operations carried out by them onsite. The Environmental Officer will be required to have good communication and computer skills and will be required to prepare reports on behalf of the Sustainability Manager for senior management.
They will also have primary responsibility to carry out all waste audits and their associated actions. The Environmental Auditor will be required within the wider Estates and Facilities to help integrate the auditing functions of the department and streamline processes.

Job responsibilities
Compilation of and interpretation of complex audit and analytical data. Preparation of text, tables, and/or figures for reports. Prepare agendas and meeting documentation, attend meetings and follow up actions as required by the Sustainability Manager. Ensure Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the Environmental function are reviewed and updated in the specified timeframes. To assist the Waste and Sustainability Manager in creating an integrated environmental auditing process for quality, cleanliness and safety around waste disposal. Responsible for ensuring that incidents / near misses that are recorded on the Trusts Datix system are investigated and closed out in a timely fashion. Maintain an overview of ongoing environmental work within the estates team in line with agreed deadlines and work-plan and monitor and report the progress to team members. To assist in the continuous development of systems to manage the collation of data and evidence across the organisation relevant to quality and safety of waste disposal, bringing any improved efficiencies or cost savings to the attention of the relevant area lead. To co-ordinate, undertake, monitor and evaluate Estates and Facilities audits across the organisation, to ensure standards and outcomes are achieved and quality feedback and/or training is received within required timeframes. Lead development and maintenance of systems and procedures including championing using new technologies. To work with the Sustainability Manager to prepare for, facilitate and contribute to external reviews of the Trusts compliance with agreed standards e.g. Care Quality Commission reviews, Environment Agency clinical waste pre-assessment audits, PLACE and meeting standards such as Environment and Sustainability HTM 07-01: Safe management of healthcare waste and environmental health standards. To also work alongside Estates and Facilities and Infection Prevention and Control teams to facilitate and contribute to works reviews, monthly reports and external appraisals. This may also include the production of presentation materials, spreadsheets and graphs as directed and within agreed timeframes. To be responsible for ensuring that environmental standards relating to all waste streams and their disposal are achieved and maintained across the Trust. To communicate with staff at all levels of the trust and provide advice relating to waste and environmental management. To liaise with suppliers and contractors as required. Manage and maintain environmental records and documents, including ERIC returns. Other information will be produced in the form of SOPs, QPAs or guidance posters/ process flow diagrams for example. Maintain and report on appropriate measures of site environmental and sustainability performance. Communicate environmental issues to internal stakeholders through various media. To use a procurement system to raise purchase orders, and to receipt invoices, ensuring that contractors are paid in a timely manner. To identify opportunities for personal development and participate in personal performance/development planning processes.
