Staff Nurse Pulmonary Oncology. 2x Full time (37.5hours) Fixed term contract. Would like to receive applications from candidates who would be open to working a range of shift patterns including Night Shifts and weekends.

We are looking for an efficient, enthusiastic, highly motivated NMC registered nurse with excellent interpersonal and communication skills , to work on our pulmonary oncology unit.

You will be joining our friendly and dynamic multi-disciplinary team with excellent standards and great work ethic. You will be supported to develop as a band 5 staff nurse through preceptorship, peer support and an exciting range of educational opportunities.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a NMC registered band 5 Staff Nurse who is an efficient, enthusiastic, highly motivated nurse with excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work in our pulmonary oncology unit. Ideally you should have at least 6 months post NMC registration however preceptorship training is available for New Qualified Nurses.

You will be joining our friendly and dynamic multi-disciplinary team with excellent standards and great work ethic. You will be supported to develop as a band 5 staff nurse through preceptorship, peer support and an exciting range of educational opportunities.

You will be responsible for the day to day care of a team of patients, administering medications. completing risk assessments and relevant referrals, supporting the medical and specialist teams in devising holistic patient led plans of care and facilitating timely discharges.

We care for mainly pulmonary oncology (Lung cancer) and some general respiratory patients who may have acute illness associated with their conditions. you will also gain knowledge in post bronchoscopy patient care. You can expect training in intravenous therapy, cannulation, chest drain care, catheterisation amongst many other skills.

We have many allied specialist staff who provide support and training in relevant palliative skills and medication. You will have opportunities to spend time with our specialist teams, in clinics and on the ward.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered nurse (Current Full NMC registration)
  • Degree or Diploma in Nursing studies


Desirable

  • GCSE English or equivalent
  • Practice Supervisor (SLIP)
  • Have worked within the specialty of Pulmonary Oncology


Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working on own and as part of a team
  • Awareness of clinical audit


Desirable

  • Ability to supervise and support junior staff/newqualifeid staff/students
  • 6 months post qualified experience
