This is an exciting opportunity for mental health nurses and occupational therapists to work with people with significant emotion regulation and interpersonal difficulties within the Derby City Adult CMHT.

Derbyshire Healthcare Foundation Trust has developed an enhanced offer for people meeting diagnostic criteria for Borderline Personality Disorder / Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder.

We are creating a clear, structured pathway within each CMHT, comprising referral, assessment, socialisation, treatment and discharge phases.

There is a choice of treatment approaches including structured therapy and case management using the Structured Clinical Management (SCM) model (this post) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy.

Main duties of the job

Successful applicants will work with a small case load utilising the SCM model to enhance problem solving and crisis planning and develop skills in managing emotions, improving relationships and reducing impulsive behaviour.

SCM is an evidence-based approach incorporating both individual and group work that enables generalist mental health practitioners to work effectively with people meeting criteria for diagnosis with borderline personality disorder.

SCM has been adopted by many NHS Trusts and is supported by NHS England and NHS Improvement.

Your clinical work within SCM will involve: building effective therapeutic relationships with a focus on curiosity and validation; structured assessment leading to a shared formulation of the maintenance of problems and identification of the person's own goals; co-producing safety plans which actively involve service-users in managing their risks; providing weekly problem-solving focussed individual sessions; and co-facilitating group sessions focussing on developing understanding through shared experiences and skills building.

You will also develop expertise in this area and provide a consultative and supportive role to colleagues within the wider CMHT in working compassionately and effectively with our client group.

About us

You will be joining a passionate and motivated, multi-disciplinary Emotion Regulation Pathway team of mental health nurses, occupational therapists and clinical psychologists.

We are committed to developing our own awareness and skills, supporting each other, and reflecting on our work in order to continue to develop and provide high quality, effective and accessible services.

You will also join the wider 'Team Derbyshire Healthcare' and become part of a talented, compassionate and enthusiastic workforce committed to a vision of 'making a positive difference in people's lives'.

CQC rated us as 'GOOD' overall, commenting on how our colleagues treated patients with compassion and kindness and felt positive and proud about working for the trust.

Benefits include:
  • Commitment to flexible working where this is possible
  • 27 days annual leave/year plus bank holidays, increasing to 29 days after 5 years & 33 days after 10 years' service
  • Yearly appraisal and commitment to ongoing training
  • Generous NHS pension scheme
  • Good maternity, paternity and adoption benefits
  • Health service discounts and online benefits
  • Incremental pay progression
  • Free confidential employee assistance programme 24/7
  • Access to our LGBTI+ network, BAME Network and Christian Network
  • Health and wellbeing opportunities
  • Structured learning and development opportunities
