The Forensic Psychological Service has an exciting vacancy for the position of Principal Applied Psychologist with FIRST, the forensic community service.

We are seeking a highly experienced and enthusiastic Practitioner Psychologist to work in a senior role within MPUFT's community forensic service, the Forensic Intensive Recovery and Support Team (FIRST). We are looking for a Practitioner Psychologist who is passionate about making a difference to the lives of people who have experienced forensic inpatient services and is committed to the development and delivery of a high quality, psychologically-informed service and pathway. Highly specialised knowledge, experience and skills are necessary for this role.FIRST work closely with other forensic services in the West Midlands, as part of the REACH OUT partnership, a new provider collaborative. MPUFT's FIRST support men and women from the northern West Midlands in the process of discharge from forensic inpatient services and work to ensure safe, effective and successful transitions to the community.

The FIRST Practitioner Psychologist provides a pivotal role in the service, formulating and communicating psychological information, knowledge and opinion to others, including via decision-making fora with responsibility for risk management, public protection, service commissioning or planning for future care pathways for service users in hospital or the community.

Main duties of the job

The FIRST Practitioner Psychologist will:

Provide a highly specialist psychology service to service users supported by FIRST and to ensure the community forensic service overall is of the highest quality.

Provide highly specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals to ensure effective decisions are made about interventions, risk management plans and future care pathways for service users in forensic inpatient services, including out of area placements, and in the community with FIRST

Possess a thorough working knowledge of these processes and pathways and show confidence in communicating complex information effectively.

Provide highly specialist psychological assessment, individual and group therapy to service users with complex presentations.

Supervise and support the psychological assessment, formulation and treatment provided by other staff who provide psychologically informed care to service users.

Plan and deliver a range of training for MPFT staff and staff of partner organisations.

Undertake and disseminate audit, service evaluation and research.

Work within the Forensic Directorate inpatient wards, community services, residential placements and custodial settings, as required. The role will involve in person attendance for assessment, treatment or meetings at venues both within the northern West Midlands and nationally.

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in applied psychology (or its equivalent), as accredited by the BPS, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
  • Currently registered with HCPC and eligible for chartered status with the British Psychological Society
  • Substantial experience of working as a qualified psychologist with people with people with severe and enduring mental health problems who present a serious risk of harm to others

    QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

    Essential

    • Post-graduate doctoral level training in applied psychology (or its equivalent), as accredited by the BPS
    • .Currently registered with HCPC and eligible for chartered status with the British Psychological Society


    Desirable

    • Additional post graduate level training in at least one psychological therapy e.g. CBT, CAT


    EXPERIENCE

    Essential

    • Substantial experience of working as a qualified psychologist with people with people with severe and enduring mental health problems who present a serious risk of harm to others


    SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES

    Desirable

    • High level skills in providing liaison, consultation and clinical supervision to professional and non-professional colleagues in health and non-health settings
