This is an exciting secondment opportunity for a motivated and experienced candidate at a Band 6 level who wishes to enhance their clinical and leadership skills within a senior position or an existing Band 7 candidate looking to build on their experience within an Inpatient setting As the Senior team leader - nursing, you will be responsible for the effective and efficient day to day running of the unit and therefore lead by example and make recommendations to support the Unit Manager and ward manager to help develop the strategic plan for the service. The post holder will be proactive and use their own initiative to be responsive and supportive to the physical, social, psychological and spiritual well being of each patient within the Unit.

The post holder will provide visible clinical leadership and professional development for nursing, health care and administrative staff on magnolia unit.

Main duties of the job

  • Main responsibilities :
  • promote exceptional standards of care in line with relevant Department of Health and BEH local policy , ensuring that each patient has a care management plan that is effective
  • ensuring all nursing staff operate within relevant legislation, including Codes of Practice and standards
  • work closely with the Infection Control Nurse to ensure that the local and national Infection control guidelines are implemented and monitored through regular audit and review and any lapses in standards are reported and managed appropriately.
  • in liaison with the Unit Manager; keep the standard of cleanliness for the Unit under regular review.
  • ensure there is a robust clinical risk assessment and planning system in place, to safeguard the welfare of patients, staff and visitors.
  • identify any changes that are needed to Unit policies and guidelines and work with the Unit Manager to develop and review.
  • In collaboration with the senior team, actively participate in ward governance meetings and ensure junior staff are encouraged to attend.
  • in partnership with the Unit Manager maintain a robust education and learning plan for all staff and have responsibility for monitoring all mandatory training, personal development and appraisals for the nursing team.
  • directly line manage the Junior Team Leaders and have day to day management of all Nursing staff and Health Care Assistants

About us

Magnolia unit is a 34 bedded Inpatient rehabilitation ward based on the St Michael's site in Enfield, part of Enfield community service. The ward admits adults with multipathology or Stroke/ Neurological diagnoses who require short term rehabilitation with a multidisciplinary team involvement to achieve set aims and objectives for improved function, health and well-being. You will be working within an MDT consisting of doctors, nurses, health care assistants, physiotherapists , OTs, Speech therapists, therapy technicians, dietitian, pharmacist, administrative staff and domestic/ catering staff.

The service is under the umbrella of Barnet Enfield and Haringey Mental health Trust, however is a physical health service .

Person Specification EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS Essential
  • Professional Registration (RGN level 1 minimum)
  • BSc / 1st degree (health related)
  • Practice Assessor
Desirable
  • Sign off assessor
  • Leadership / management qualification.
  • Masters degree
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE Essential
  • Experience in working in an acute setting.
  • Experience of teaching and assessing others in a clinical setting.
Desirable
  • Experience of working in a rehabilitation environment.
  • Experience in managing a ward.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES Essential
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of own professional clinical limitations.
Desirable
  • Understanding of discharge planning in a rehabilitation / community setting.
  • Experience in an acute setting.
PERSONAL QUALITIES Essential
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Accountable, reliable and flexible and able to work full range of shifts.
