The Pharmacy Department at Barts Health covers a population of 2.5 million. We provide medicines management and medicines optimisation services from our four hospital sites across the City of London and East London.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for the role of the Lead Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician position at the Royal London Hospital.
The post holder will be responsible for managing the ward based team of Pharmacy Technicians, pre-registration pharmacy technicians and Medicines Management pharmacy assistants. They will be responsible for providing a patient facing service to the inpatient wards and organising the operational flow of the service.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will carry out the full range of duties as the Lead Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician to deliver patient focused, quality care, at the Royal London Hospital.
The post holder will be responsible for managing the ward-based team of Pharmacy Technicians, pre-registration pharmacy technicians and Medicines Management pharmacy assistants. They will be responsible for providing a patient facing service to the inpatient wards and organising the operational flow of the service.
To provide leadership to the medicines management pharmacy technicians (MMTs) in the promotion and development of ward-based pharmacy technician services.
To assist the pharmacists in ensuring that the patients' pharmaceutical care needs are met at ward level. This includes non-stock supply, re-use of patients' own drugs, discharge planning, patient counselling and provision of compliance aids.
To develop the service and roles of the medicines management technicians in conjunction with the clinical pharmacy team.
The post holder will work closely with the Deputy Head of Pharmacy and the Site Lead Pharmacy Technician (SLPT).

- BTEC Pharmaceutical Sciences /NVQ 3 or equivalent
- Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification
- HEE LaSE Medicines Optimisation qualification or equivalent
Desirable
- ILM Level 3 Leadership and Management qualification or equivalent
- Practice Supervisor, Train the trainer or equivalent qualification
Experience
Essential
- Significant experience as a pharmacy technician
- Relevant post-registration experience in a hospital pharmacy department and as a ward-based Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician
- Experience of managing or supervising a small team of staff
- Experience of training staff including providing developmental feedback and implementing training plans
- Medicines management experience in a ward-based setting, e.g. medication history taking, POD assessment etc
- Dispensing and accuracy checking
- Pharmacy labelling, stock control and report creation systems
- Experience of completing audits
- Use of Datix incident reporting system or equivalent
- Experience of patient consultations
