We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic CAMHS practitioner to join an extended Mental Health Liaison Service for all-age mental health problems within the Princess Royal Hospital and Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, to be the lead in ensuring Children and Young People have access to quality and timely psychiatric assessment and support.

To provide mental health assessment and support for patients within general hospital settings and develop and implement care plans in co-operation with the General Hospital staff, ensuring Acute providers and Psychiatric Liaison services have access to specialist CAMHS knowledge and resources.

To improve the overall quality and provision of psychological aspects of care by sharing mental health skills and knowledge with other health care colleagues, ensuring pathways for Children and Young People attending Acute Providers are safe and effective, clearly communicated and robustly evaluated.

Main duties of the job

  • To lead and develop the offer of Psychiatric Liaison to Children and Young People in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin.
  • To undertake assessment of mental health and care needs of inpatients in the acute hospitals with mental health problems in cooperation with multi-disciplinary teams within the hospital.
  • To undertake assessment of carer views and needs and provide appropriate advice and support.
  • To provide clinical advice relating to complex mental health issues to nurses and other health care professionals.
  • To effectively refer to and liaise with a range of agencies and services so that the patient's mental health needs are met effectively and appropriately during their admission and following discharge from the acute hospital setting.
  • To contribute to the development of operational and clinical policies relevant to the Liaison Mental Health Service.
  • To take the lead in promoting, maintaining and developing the multi-disciplinary concept of care working.
  • To develop therapeutic relationships with the client and their carers.
  • Participate in research within area of clinical expertise where possible to raise understanding and awareness of good clinical practice.
  • Actively engage in the organisations clinical governance initiatives, for example to participate in audit, clinical supervision and bringing critically evaluated evidence and research into practice.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Qualification and Professional Registration in one of the following: Nursing, Social Work, Clinical Psychology/Psychological Therapy, Allied Health (SaLT, OT)
  • Masters / Post Graduate qualification related to child and adolescent mental health or equivalent extensive experience


Desirable

  • Enhanced clinical qualification / training (e.g ACP, Independent Prescriber, DBT, EMDR, CBT)


Experience

Essential

  • Experience working with children and young people with complex social, emotional and mental health needs, in high levels of distress, including risk assessment and safety planning
  • Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of local authority child protection processes
  • Experience of supervising and supporting a nursing/healthcare team


Desirable

  • Experience of working in acute / inpatient / crisis settings and using the Mental Health Act
