Are you a qualified Occupational Therapist with a passion and desire to work within a mental health setting? We are looking for an Occupational Therapist to work within our West Dorset Acute Occupational Therapy Team.

As an Occupational Therapist you will provide assessment and intervention for people with a mental illness supporting men and women in an acute phase of illness and assisting them in their recovery. You will work closely and within a multidisciplinary team, MDT, liaise with external services, communicate with family members and be an integral part of the delivery of patient care and service development.

You will receive regular supervision, participate in a peer support network, have the opportunity for flexible working, receive ongoing learning and development and regular CPD opportunities.

This is a full time position, part-time hours will be considered up to 32 hours a week. You will be based at Forston Clinic.

We welcome applications to newly qualified or a current Band 5 Occupational Therapist and Band 6 Occupational Therapist possibly looking for a change. For the right candidate we could consider a developmental role from Band 5 to Band 6 dependent on your knowledge and experience.

Main duties of the job

Further responsibilities include involvement in quality improvement, attending professional meeting, guiding support workers and keeping training and CPD up to date for self and others.

You will be required to undertake aPrevention and Management of Violence and Aggressioncourse and it is a condition of your employment that you successfully complete all aspects of this course if this is not achieved you will not be able to commence working in the post.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree/ Diploma in Occupational Therapy
  • Registration with Health Professions Council
  • PMVA and Breakaway Training


Desirable

  • Membership of Professional Body
  • Membership of Specialist Section of RCOT


Experience

Essential

  • Experience with functional assessments and activity analysis
  • Experience of group work
  • Documented evidence of Continuing Professional Development


Desirable

  • Experience of supporting people with mental health problems


Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of the Model of Human Occupation
  • Ability to apply the Occupational Therapy process
  • Health and Safety knowledge, awareness of risk


Desirable

  • Knowledge of MHA (1983)


Skills

  • Ability to manage and prioritise own case load
