We have a permanent full-time vacancy for a band 6 clinical associate psychologist within our outpatient team. Applicants will need relevant adult eating disorders competencies achieved during their Clinical Associate Psychologist (CAP) placement.

The Eating Disorders Outpatients Department is internationally renowned for providing best practice, evidence-based care for adults with the full range of eating disorder difficulties. We are the developers of MANTRA (Maudsley Anorexia Nervosa Treatment for Adults), now recommended as part of NICE 2017 guidelines for the treatment of anorexia nervosa of FREED (First Episode Rapid Early Intervention for Eating Disorders) and of PEACE (Pathway for Eating Disorders and Autism developed from Clinical Experience). The Outpatients Department works closely with the Eating Disorder Inpatient and Day-Services programmes.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will contribute to the systematic provision of specialist assessment, treatment planning, treatment provision and monitoring of outcomes under the supervision of an experienced clinical psychologist. Job responsibilities

This post holder will provide psychological interventions within the Eating Disorders Outpatients Department under the supervision of a qualified clinical/counselling psychologist who will retain clinical responsibility for clinical work carried out, provided that the clinical work is within the care plan specified. Alongside this, supervision can also be offered by a psychological professional such as a CBT therapist. Applicants will need relevant adult eating disorders competencies achieved during their Clinical Associate Psychologist (CAP) placement.

Qualifications

Essential

• An approved qualification in psychology conferring eligibility for graduate basis for registration with the British Psychological Society, (Class 2.2 or higher)
• Completed BPS [British Psychological Society] accredited CAP apprenticeship training programme including EPA to IFA standards

Experience

Essential

• Understand how to analyse and appraise key theoretical concepts of psychological models of treatment both at individual and group level recognised in evidence-based national guidelines
• Experience working with eating disorders either in a clinical or research capacity
• Communicate effectively, share information and check understanding using clear language and appropriate, written materials, making reasonable adjustments where appropriate in order to optimise people's understanding
• Evaluate and audit clinical practice through conducting service evaluations/QI projects to inform change through dissemination of findings ensuring best use of publicly funded resources
• Apply and review risk assessments and formulations when working with complex patients within scope of practice

Desirable

• Lived experience of using services, and/or being a carer for someone

Knowledge/Skills

Essential

• To be able to assess and formulate someone's experiences drawing on a range of psychological models and theory
• Knowledge of leading theories and treatments for eating disorders
• Maintain and implement knowledge of contemporary evidence-based practice through appropriate continued professional development
• Ability to analyse and appraise the range of psychological assessment methods used within applied clinical practice to underpin assessment
• Able to show respect and empathy for service users and colleagues and have the courage to challenge concerns, working to evidence-based best practice

Desirable

• Experience of working closely experts-by-experience, local communities, Community and Voluntary and Social Enterprises, to co-produce and co-develop services
• Able to understand and critically appraise best evidence and existing practice to inform clinical decision making where there is no agreed consensus on treatment protocols and evaluate outcome
• Experienced in using a range of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies relevant to situation and service context that draw on specialist psychological tools to collect data to evaluate own practice as well as to enhance service delivery
