Are you looking to start your band 5 career or would you like the chance of a new challenge in a collaborative and exciting specialty? If so, we have full time and part time permanent positions with a mixture of long days and nights, Monday - Sunday within our cardiothoracic ward here at Hammersmith Hospital.
A9 is a 20-bedded cardiothoracic surgical ward caring for patients with complex cardiac and thoracic needs both pre and post surgery. As well as taking step downs from ITU following extensive cardiac surgery, patients requiring tracheostomy care, our service is evolving and Enhanced Recovery for Thoracic Surgery has been introduced.
Cardiothoracic experience is desirable however we welcome newly qualified nurses with a passion for cardiac. You will need to be dynamic and a forward thinking nurse with a desire to share your knowledge and skills within an inclusive and diverse environment. You should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a genuine enthusiasm for providing high quality, individualised patient centred care.
You will be supported by our nursing management team, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, cardiac clinical practice educators and highly skilled multi-disciplinary team members.

Main duties of the jobo To provide high quality compassionate care to all patientsoTo be professional and accountable for own actions and to work within the guidelines, policies and procedures of Imperial NHS Trust.o Provide support and, individualised care to patients, relatives/carers in collaboration with the multi professional team, in line with the local and national targets.o At all times ensure that the needs of the patient are placed at the centre of care delivery.o To be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and provide cover for any area specified.

Education/ Qualifications
Essential
- Current RN (Adult) with NMC registration
Desirable
- Relevant post registration course in ECG monitoring and interpretation
- Immediate Life Support (ILS)
- Mentorship course or equivalent
Experience
Essential
- Minimum 6 months post registration experience within healthcare
Desirable
- Previous coronary care/cardiology or acute medical ward experience
- Previous cardiothoracic care experience
Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities
Essential
- Knowledgeable about healthcare issues and care of the acutely ill patient
- Medication administration skills including IV drug administration (or a willingness to undergo training)
- Able to demonstrate ability to deliver high standards of care to patients
- Ability to develop own clinical skills, problem solve, plan and prioritise workload
Desirable
- Basic knowledge of CPAP, NIV, acute MI interventions and treatments
- Rhythm recognition and 12-lead ECG interpretation
- Basic knowledge of post cardiothoracic surgical care, care of chest drains, care of post-surgical wounds.
