An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and passionate senior pharmacist, with a keen interest in clinical services and patient safety, to join our expanding pharmacy team within the Central Integrated Health Community (CIHC).

The post is suited to a pharmacist looking to further develop their existing leadership and management skills. There is a strongly embedded multi-disciplinary culture where you'll be recognised and valued for your skills. This is a role offering diverse responsibilities incorporating leadership, planning, implementation and continuous service improvement for the patient healthcare journey.

The successful candidate will have the responsibility in developing and implementing strategies around medication safety and leading on local and national directives relating to medicines management safety. The role will provide expert clinical advice to incident investigations involving medications including leading on actions plans for serious incidents, never events and inquests relating to medication safety improvements.

Main duties of the job

You will work collaboratively across the CIHC to provide a safe, effective and highly valued pharmacy service. This post forms part of the pharmacy senior leadership team and plays an important role in delivering services which directly improve outcomes for patients.

You will lead on quality improvement initiatives within the CIHC and work closely with other pharmacy senior leaders across BCUHB, including the Medication Safety Officer, to improve medication safety for patients.

Successful candidates will possessexcellent communication and organisational skills, be able to demonstrate compassionate leadership and problem solving skills and have the ability to plan and work independently as well as being part of a wider team.

You will act as the departments audit lead for medication safety issues, encourage audit and original research to support safe medication practice.

You will be the pharmacy representative for the CIHC Safer Medicines Practice Group and escalate medication safety issues to senior members of the CIHC leadership team.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered pharmacist with GPhC
  • Masters Degree or equivalent in Pharmacy
  • Post-graduate diploma/MSc in relevant pharmacy area or equivalent documented experience in relevant area


Desirable

  • Management qualification or equivalent experience
  • Teaching / assessing qualification
  • Independent / supplementary prescriber


Experience

Essential

  • A substantive level of post qualification experience in primary care / secondary care
  • Able to demonstrate a suitable level of experience providing specialist pharmacy services
  • Experience of success in service development
  • Experience of working effectively in a multidisciplinary environment
  • Experience of writing and implementing business plans
  • Internal and multidisciplinary audit


Desirable

  • Experience of managing prescribing databases
  • Demonstrable experience of managing conflicting priorities within tight budgets and/or time constraints
