We are looking for a Deputy Head of Estates to join the Derbyshire Support and Facilities Services Ltd estates team to manage all aspects of the operational estates service provided to Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and external clients. You will need to demonstrate strong team working skills have extensive experience of working in an Estates/FM environment (ideally in the Public Sector) and be able to demonstrate excellent customer service skills.

This post will play a key role in meeting the estates key performance indicators and achieving the departments cost improvement plans. The successful department will manage all aspects of the day to day operational estates service on behalf of the Head of Estates.

Main duties of the job

Being responsible for all operational aspects of the estates workshop including performance, morale, expenditure, productivity, sickness, essential training etc.Ensuring that the estates MICAD and Zetasafe systems are managed and used correctly and as effectively as possible.Coaching and mentoring workshop team leaders to ensure the workshop team hits KPIs for planned and reactive maintenance.Identifying and delivering cost improvement plans by ensuring we purchase stores, obtain contracts and source contractors at the best possible price to obtain the required service.Ensuring we review overtime and out of hours callouts and implement changes to ensure a 'best value' service.Ensuring all sickness, disciplinary and performance issues within the workshop are promptly managed in line with our policies.Working with other senior estates managers to ensure that we deliver the required planned maintenance across the estates to meet our statutory requirements.Evaluating workshop procedures to ensure we are operating as efficiently as possible, allowing workshop staff to complete the maximum number of jobs in the day.Being appointed as an Authorised Person for disciplines within the post-holder's skillset, acting as a backup AP if a suitable Senior Estates Officer or Estates Officer is not available.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Master's Degree in a Building Services or Construction discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • P405 management of asbestos (or willing to complete within 12 months of starting in the role).


Desirable

  • IOSH or NEBOSH.
  • Membership of an appropriate professional institute such as IHEEM, CIBSE, RIBA, IWFM, IEE etc.
  • In date training for Responsible Person or Authorised Person roles.


Experience

Essential

  • Significant estates leadership & management experience within an acute NHS trust or similar complex organisation such as the MOD.
  • Evidence of success in leading and implementing significant change programmes within the NHS or other similarly sized organisations whilst maintaining high standards of quality
  • Experience of managing a wide range of estates issues around procurement, contractors, planning, quality standards, governance and H& S matters
  • Proven track record of delivering against performance and financial efficiency targets, working across multiple departments to achieve them
  • Experience in formulating department training & development plans and policies.


Desirable

  • Proven experience of effective risk and resource management within a large public sector organisation.


Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Able to apply strong technical knowledge to make improvements to the estates department and mentor team members as required
  • Good knowledge of CAFM systems (MICAD) and able to analyse complex data and make informed decisions from it.
  • Fully conversant with statutory requirements that apply within an estates department and able to reference where to find said information
  • Able to motivate a team and drive effective change
  • Demonstratable project management skills
  • Excellent IT skills, able to create complex Excel, Word and Powerpoint documents and produce quality reports as required.


Desirable

  • Previous experience of lean working or Kaizen and its application within an estates department.
