The Mile End Early Diagnostic Centre (MEEDC) is a brand new service for North East London (NEL) which opened in March 2021, hosted by Barts Health NHS Trust, to support early diagnosis of cancer for the local population, and the first of its kind nationally.
The MEEDC will operate as a system resource for the three main providers within NEL covering the 7 Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG), providing additional capacity in-hours, consisting of two endoscopy rooms, two ultrasound rooms and a decontamination unit. This capacity will be used primarily for cancer surveillance however any remaining capacity will be used to support urgent referrals. The key aim for the MEEDC is to provide person centred care, reducing variation across NEL and ensuring a high-quality diagnostic service for the local population.
There are a number of exciting opportunities arising within this brand new service at Mile End Hospital, for highly skilled, knowledgeable, dynamic and innovative individuals.Junior Charge Nurse - Band 6o The provision of high standard of individualised holistic patient care to all patients attending the endoscopy unit, assist with procedures and work as part of a large multidisciplinary team.o Co-ordinating the unit on a regular basis. Supervising own team, providing appraisal, teaching and support.
Main duties of the job
The provision of high standard of individualised holistic patient care to all patients attending the Mile End Early Diagnostic Centre (MEEDC) endoscopy unit, assist with procedures and work as part of a large multidisciplinary team.
Providing line management and supervising own team including conducting staff appraisals, teaching and support.
Undertaking Coordinator duties, in the MEEDC endoscopy unit on a regular basis.

- Registered Nurse, with at least 2 years' experience in endoscopy.
- Courses relevant to the speciality

- Mentorship qualification

- At least 2 years' experience as a band 5 in an endoscopy unit.
- Experience in managing endoscopy Lists.
- Relevant previous ward experience.
Desirable
- Previous band 6 in endoscopy experience
Knowledge
Essential
- Knowledge of recovery of patients who have undergone therapeutic procedure during endoscopy
- Knowledge of medication used in endoscopy.
- Able to trouble shoot problems arising in the endoscopy room and recovery, and know when to seek help.
- Knowledge of current and emerging NHS strategy and policy
Desirable
- Experience of Equal Opportunity policies and procedures.
- Ability to identify and take action when own or other's undermines equality and diversity.
Skills
Essential
- Able to assist all endoscopic procedures, including colonoscopy, gastroscopy, bronchoscopy, ERCP, endoscopic ultrasound.
- You must be independent with all these procedures. Use of lifting solution, glue, dye spray.
- Ability to cannulate
- Ability to work within set timeframes working to priorities and deadlines
