The creation of a new Regional Service to manage patients with Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD) has provided an exciting opportunity for a new 0.5 WTE Band 7 Respiratory Physiotherapist. Additional funding to create a new Bronchiectasis Virtual Ward has created the opportunity for a new 0.5 WTE Band 7 Respiratory Physiotherapist to set up and lead the physiotherapy provision for this innovative service. We are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic physiotherapist to come and work within the specialist PCD and Bronchiectasis multi-disciplinary team based at Glenfield Hospital, a tertiary specialist cardio-respiratory hospital, part of University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.

The new Central England Adult PCD Clinical Management Service will provide coordination, advice, and clinical care to adult PCD patients across the Midlands and East Region, and is one of four similar Services commissioned by NHSE. The Service will be provided in partnership with University Hospitals of Birmingham. A similar physiotherapy post will be based in Birmingham. The role will include: working within a dedicated PCD MDT providing specialist PCD clinics based in Leicester and network clinics in the wider region. Supporting local physiotherapists to manage patients with PCD within hospitals and clinics in the region. Close working with other specialist adult and paediatric PCD services to ensure national standards of high quality care, and seamless transition from Paediatric services.

Main duties of the job

The new Bronchiectasis Virtual Ward will provide an early supported discharge service to patients who are acutely unwell with Bronchiectasis. The role will work alongside an experienced MDT and include: assessing patient suitability for the service, assessing and optimising any acute physiotherapy needs before discharge and whilst the patient is in the virtual ward, managing any ongoing physiotherapy needs with appropriate onwards referrals and evaluation of the service.

This post will sit within the existing Cystic Fibrosis and Bronchiectasis specialist physiotherapy team. It will also have a close working relationship with the large inpatient and outpatient respiratory physiotherapy team based at Glenfield, a highly motivated, supportive specialist cardio respiratory physiotherapy team.

This post is part of both a brand new national service development for adult patients with PCD and another new Virtual Ward service, and presents a unique opportunity to help shape a novel, patient centered service. A degree of flexible and remote working will be encouraged. Car owner driver is essential. The post is advertised as 1 WTE Band 7 Post, to cover 0.5 WTE PCD and 0.5 WTE Bronchiectasis Virtual Ward.

About us

Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).

We have four primary goals:
  • high-quality care for all,
  • being a great place to work,
  • partnerships for impact, and
  • research and education excellence

And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:
  • we are compassionate,
  • we are proud,
  • we are inclusive, and
  • we are one team

This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
