The organisation

Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust provides physical and mental health, learning disabilities and adult social care services in Staffordshire, Stoke-on-Trent, Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and other parts of England.

The Forensic Psychological Service is part of the Forensic Directorate within the Specialist Care Group.

The Forensic Directorate provides local, high quality, specialised and comprehensive mental health and learning disability services for offenders with mental health needs and others who may benefit from such services. The Forensic Directorate consists of medium and low secure inpatient; community forensic; Liaison and Diversion and Offender Personality Disorder services.

Members of the Forensic Psychological Service are primarily based at St George’s Hospital in Staffordshire or the Redwoods Centre in Shropshire. Colleagues delivering Offender Personality Disorder services are based in Probation Services across the Midlands region.

The post

In conjunction with the Clinical Lead, the post-holder would take responsibility for the advancement and quality of care for clients who experience a range of mental health problems requiring evidence based psychological interventions. They would offer care to people identified as specifically requiring psychological interventions in accordance with your level of competence.

With the support of the Clinical Lead/Professional Lead for Forensic Psychological Service, the post holder would develop enhanced referral, assessment and treatment pathways for women identified as potentially suitable for a Mental Health Treatment Requirement

The post-holder would also assess service users for suitability for a Mental Health Treatment Requirement and the specific, evidence-based therapies in which you are qualified.

The post-holder would make informed, clinical decisions when working with people with a level of psychological need, requiring psychological assessment and intervention, within the Community Sentence Treatment Requirement Service. You will provide these assessments, formulations and interventions with regular supervision from an Applied Psychologist.

Marston House is based within St George’s Hospital in Stafford, the county town of Staffordshire. Staffordshire offers a range of affordable housing in cities, towns and rural villages. Although well known as an historic centre for ceramic production, Staffordshire also boasts large swathes of varied countryside. Cannock Chase (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and parts of the Peak District National Park and National Forest fall within its boundaries, offering a range of sporting and outdoor activities.

The region has good road and rail links offering easy access to Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool. Birmingham and East Midlands airports are also within easy reach.

Other opportunities may become available for similar roles within the Forensic Directorate for someone interested in working in offender health services.
