The Day Surgery Unit is a 21 trolley unit incorporating all surgical specialities including vascular, breast, gynaecological, urology, ophthalmology, Dental, general surgery and ENT. The unit predominately provides care for a high volume of day case surgical patients making the unit fast paced and very varied.
The unit also contains a Urology Suite covering aspects of urology procedures via a clinic process. Unique to the unit is our nurse led discharge pathway which allows nursing staff to use their judgement alongside surgical instructions to safely discharge patients.
The successful applicant will work as part of an experienced team delivering a high standard of care. They will be expected to be able to work as part of a team, have excellent communication skills, They will be highly motivated and enthusiastic and keen to develop knowledge and skills around specialised surgery

Working within the Day Care Unit
Working within a dynamic team
Admitting of the Day Care Patient and preparing them for surgery, ensuring criteria met to be a day surgery patient.
Receiving the Patient back from Recovery following surgery.
Following the BADS (British Association of Day Surgery) discharge criteria to ensure safe nurse led discharge home. Instilling confidence for the patient to self -care at home.
Ensure that agreed standards of nursing practice within the ward/department area are maintained
To undertake appropriate enhanced roles, following the necessary training, e.g. IV drug administration, ECG recording
Mentorship/support of student nurses
Efficient utilisation of trolley space.
Working within the Urology Suite
Assisting with Flexible cystoscopies.
Assisting with Trans perineal biopsies.
Using the TULA Laser system.

Education and Training
Essential
- Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
- Preparation for mentorship or equivalent as supervisor or assessor
Desirable
- Knowledge of Day Care Unit
- Knowledge of Urology Suite
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
- Relevant Expereince in the past 12-18 months looking after patients in a healthcare enviroment.
- Previous NHS experience within last 12 months

- Previous experience within an Acute setting
- Broad clinical knowledge base
Knowledge and Experience

- Minimum of 2 years post registration in Surgery
- Ability to lead and work effectively in a team
