An exciting opportunity has arisen for nurses who are looking for career development opportunities to join Rainsford Mowlam ward at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital as a Band 7 Ward Manager.
Rainsford Mowlam is a 36 bedded Care of the Elderly ward caring for patients with complex needs. The post holder will need to be motivated in supporting and developing the junior team on a shift to shift basis as well as supporting the Matron to ensure patient safety and maintain standard in the ward. They must be a positive confident role model, undertaking hands on clinical work as well as supervising and monitoring practice. They must possess a natural desire to drive improvement initiatives, be dedicated and flexible to cover the needs of the service.
A daily board meeting is carried out each morning (Monday - Friday) with the medical teams, nursing and therapy team and staff from the discharge team to discuss the progress of each of the patients and any discharges for the day and a weekly MDT meeting is held to discuss any complex issues/discharges.
Staff on the ward are dedicated to provide high quality care and have successfully initiated several improvement projects to improve patient safety.

Main duties of the job
- In collaboration with the Modern Matron, service manager & clinicians, the Ward Sister/Charge nurse is responsible for the overall effective delivery of care given to patients within the clinical area
- To provide professional leadership within the clinical area and provide professional advice and support to the whole multidisciplinary team in caring for patients.
- To have 24-hr responsibility for clinical area.
- To deliver care in accordance with the NMC Code of Practice/Scope of Professional Practice and the Trust's policies and protocols.
- To ensure the safety of patients in accordance with local and national safeguarding procedures.
- The post holder will provide expert advice and take a lead in the development and implementation of shared practice protocols in line with national recommendations and standards where these are available.
- To lead a daily multidisciplinary board meeting to ensure all patients have all patients have a clear discharge plan.
- To reduce length of stay for patients ensuring timely pathways to support highest standard of care are in place.
- To achieve financial balance
- To be responsible for the overall management of the clinical area and the professional development of staff within that area
- Assess staff performance and sickness, set up action plans and complete return to work interviews ensuring all documentation is completed.
