This role sits within the directorate triumvirate which consists of a General Manager and Clinical Directors for each of the specialties and this is the key working relationship.

The post holder line manages Matrons and Clinical Nurse Specialists and will develop key relationships with senior managers within the organisation specifically in relation to the safety and quality of care that is delivered to patients within the cardiology specialty.

Main duties of the job

In addition the Cardiology Senior Nurse will be responsible for:

Providing professional and clinical leadership for cardiology nursing teams

Translating the organisations vision and values into meaningful actions for cardiology nursing teams and hold staff to account for their delivery

Ensuring that the nursing and wider team work efficiently and effectively to maintain performance and deliver high quality safe care

Ensuring there are systems in place to measure and monitor the quality of care particularly through the use of measurement for improvement

Ensuring the rapid spread of evidence based practice across their areas of responsibility

Developing systems that measure risk and be able to diagnose and quantify risk

Developing and implementing strategies for promoting a safety culture within their service areas by engaging with the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF)

Taking a lead role in the implementation and monitoring of the Trust's risk and governance strategy at service level

Ensuring that patients are actively involved in the development of services and the monitoring of quality

To identify areas for service improvement through the use of a working knowledge of improvement methodologies and to prepare business cases for change where appropriate

  • Extensive experience of working in a senior nursing role in cardiac care
  • Experience in mentorship and supervision of staff
  • Experience in staff management
  • Experience of resource management
  • Experience in change management
  • Experience of conducting own projects successfully and follow through action

Essential

  • Evidence of both theoretical and practical skills and competency in cardiac services management
  • Evidence of leadership skills
  • Works under own initiative with good organisational skills, can work to deadlines.
  • Able to use problem solving skills
  • Effective communication both written and verbal. Presentation and report writing skills
  • Able to utilise ICT to full potential and collect data as required
  • Able to manage organisational change


Knowledge

Essential

  • Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues
  • Ability to develop protocols and guidelines
  • Understands the role of clinical governance and audit in provision of high quality clinical care.
  • Knowledge of infection control practice issues


Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree level registered nurse Educated to Masters level or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development in relevant area of speciality supplemented by specialist clinical, managerial training and CPD
  • Leadership/management course
