Main duties of the job
As a Psychiatric Liaison Nurse Nurse you will promote anddevelop clinical leadership and clinical practice and be a positive role model to junior members of the team through the practice of evidence-based care. You will be expected to support professional development through clinical appraisal and supervision and contribute to the ongoing educational programme for staff, fostering a positive learning environment.
It is expected that you carry out holistic biopsychosocial assessments and formulate plans of care to those who present in crisis.

This well established and developing service attracts international placements and joint Service Development with our local Acute Trust.
We are a team of Nurses, Doctors, Occupational Therapist, Dual Diagnosis Practitionerand Clinical Psychologist working with people who present in mental health crisis to University Hospital Lewisham and we work collaboratively with the Mental Health for Older Adults Team and Perinatal Mental Health Team.

Provide coordination and management of all referrals to the team,prioritising response times dependant on the nature of the referral. Be required to make clear decisions, based on an analysis of complexpresenting problems and judgement about available options. This willinclude those related to the admission and discharge of patients. Utilise a wide variety of clinical skills appropriate to the needs of individualpatients and the clinical setting in which they are required to be seen. Carry out robust assessments, care planning and discharge planning. Havean ability to engage challenging and /or acutely distressed patients inpotentially hostile and/or antagonistic situations.

- Registered Mental Health Nurse and/ or Learning Disabilities Nurse
- Practice Assessor Qualification
- Evidence of continued professional development

- Physical Health Qualification
- Additional training in relevant area
- Experience of working in liaison services
- Formal training in risk assessment and management
Skills and Experience
Essential
- A sound understanding and experience of how to assess and manage crisis within acute mental illness.
- Demonstrate skills in autonomous, senior decision making regarding discharge and sign posting of service users following a comprehensive assessment.
- Ability to work under pressure
- Able to use initiative and support other staff within the MDT
Desirable
- Experience of delivering training to different disciplines
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the epidemiology, presentation and immediate management of deliberate self-harm.
- Evidence of skills working with the specific diagnosis of Personality Disorder, both in assessment and treatment of.

- Significant post qualifying experience in mental health services both inpatient and community based.
- Experience of working with service users with harmful substance misuse and alcohol issues
