We are a friendly forward thinking department with a vacancy for an experienced, enthusiastic Radiographer who is passionate about high quality care. We are looking for a rotational radiographer and someone who is a good communicator and is highly competent with a range of clinical skills in cross sectional radiography/xray.
Applicants must hold a BSc Radiography or equivalent have HCPC registration and appropriate experience in CT and MRI.
24 hour service provision
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work alongside the band 7 modality leads to deliver an efficient, effective service, whilst offering guidance and support to junior colleagues and managing the day to day operations including equipment QA, services and appointments.
We are a large directorate offering a broad range of sub-specialty work, CPD is encouraged and we believe we can offer an exciting opportunity in a very diverse department with scope to progress in any area of interest.
We are a placement site for undergraduate radiographers, trainee assistant practitioners and undergraduate sonographers and have close links with several universities including the University of Gloucestershire.
The Directorate is innovative in developing the service whilst remaining responsive to the needs of patients and ensuring the development and education of staff.
NOTE: This is not a training post and you must have experience scanning:
MRI: Brains/C-spines/Cauda Equina/MSK/Prostates/Gynae/Small Bowel/dynamic studies/bolus tracking/arthograms and demonstrate knowledge of coils and MRI parameters
CT CAP, Brains+ necks, orthopedics and trauma, acute stroke, paediatrics, spinal, multiphase imaging, MPRS and dose modulation
In addition we are starting a Cardiac MRI service so Experience with CT and/or MRI Cardiacs would be desirable but not essential. We also run a CT Colon service so experience in this area is also desirable but not essential
About us
The Radiology Directorate at GHNHSFT manages services across 10 sites in Gloucestershire including 2 District General Hospitals and a new CDC this year. We are the second largest directorate in the South West of England offering a broad range of sub-specialty work for adult and paediatric radiography including trauma and orthopaedic examinations, mobile imaging and general radiography, cardiac and interventional procedures , digital fluoroscopy, CT , MRI and Ultrasound.
This is an especially exciting time to join us as the department at Cheltenham General Hospital has undergone a major refurbishment programme with all modalities benefiting from equipment replacement including 4 new digital xray rooms, 1 cone beam CT OPG/Ceph room, 3 new CT Scanners and 2 MRI scanners . Gloucestershire Hospital is currently having an innovative interventional center built to house 2 new cardiac cath labs and 2 IR rooms . In addition the district hospitals have all benefited from new digital equipment in the last year.
CPD is actively encouraged and there are opportunities to learn additional skills in all modalities to ensure that you feel fulfilled in your role.

Job responsibilities
As a Band 6 radiographer in our department you will be responsible for working with a multidisciplinary team to provide highly skilled patient focused care. You will need to have a high level of clinical knowledge, with good communication and decision making skills, the ability to prioritise and to be flexible in your approach to work, working closely with the band 7 leads to deliver an efficient, effective service while offering guidance and support to junior colleagues.
Staff recruited to this post will be expected to rotate through cross sectional modalities on both acute sites as well as xray.
The post holder will be expected to participate in the 4 week rolling rota shift system which exists within the department to provide 24/7 cover.
In addition the post holder will:
- Have detailed evidence of appropriate ongoing professional development (professional portfolio)
- Annual attendance at mandatory training.
- Exhibit effective day to day multidisciplinary team and leadership skills
- Have the ability to motivate others
- Possess developed judgement and decision-making skills and be reflective in thinking and outlook
- Have the skills to supervise, instruct and train student radiographers on placement and trainee assistant practitioners.
- Basic knowledge of IT skills.
-Physical skills required: dexterity, co-ordination and sensory skill required for precise positioning of patients with narrow margins of error, and performing intravenous injections. Specialised keyboard skills for image manipulation.
-Have competency sign off in the areas of clinical specialty

- DCR(R) , BSC in Radiography, or equivalent overseas qualification. HCPC registration
- Demonstrate a high degree of practical experience and up to date knowledge of CT and MRI
- Maintain a high standard of patient care and professional conduct
- Be able to work under pressure and prioritise workload. Be able to deal with day to day decisions when working single-handed
- Work well both in a team and independently
- Demonstrate good communication skills both verbal and written
