An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated person with a passion for caring for older people to join Ramsbottom Ward (Bury). The post holder will gain valuable experience and new skills in leadership and staff management within the clinical sphere of older people's services. Supervision will be available to support development in the role.

Ramsbottom Ward is a 10-bed unit caring for older female people with organic illnesses. Ramsbottom Ward offers person centred care, involving where possible the patient in the planning of their care. It is the aim of the staff to get patients back into the community and into their own homes and where this is not possible, to assist in a smooth and dignified transfer into permanent care. It is about making the later years in that person's life as enjoyable and fulfilling as possible, achieving optimum mental wellbeing for each individual patient.

Expressions of interest are invited for a 9 month secondment, the post will be based on Ramsbottom Ward, at Pennine House at Fairfield General Hospital. It is a full time post(37.5 per week)

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be able to work effectively as a Deputy Clinical Lead/Deputy Ward Manager, have excellent communication skills, welcome a challenge and have a real desire to make a difference to the care we provide to the adult age group inclusive of evolving models of care and modernisation of mental health services.

You will be responsible for the assessment of needs, planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for clients admitted on the ward.You will also be responsible for the support and supervision of junior members of staff, supporting with audits and quality improvement.

The successful candidate will have first level registration as an RMN/RNMH, have experience of working in a mental health setting and be able to work across the 24 hour shift pattern on a rotational basis.

Person Specification

Educational/Qualifications

Essential

  • First level registration (RMN)
  • Appropriate diploma or post registration equivalent.
  • Evidence of Continual Professional development
  • IT Literate
  • Training in management of violence and aggression


Desirable

  • Training in psychosocial interventions
  • ECDL


Experience

Essential

  • Experience at Band 5 and evidence of appropriate clinical management experience.
  • Experience of working in older peoples acute mental health settings.


Desirable

  • Experience of working in a range of mental health settings.


Knowledge

Essential

  • Good understanding of Mental Illness.
  • Knowledge of treatments and interventions appropriate for individuals with acute mental health needs
  • Ability to demonstrate working knowledge of the Mental Health Act and CPA process.
  • Knowledge of current policy and guidance in relation to the development of Acute Mental Health Services
  • Understanding of confidentiality and data protection issues


Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Good verbal and written communication skills, with emphasis on complex and sensitive information
  • Ability to complete the appropriate documentation.
  • Good social skills and have a positive attitude within the team and when dealing with service users, staff, carers, visitors and the public.


Work Related Circumstances

  • Ability and willingness to work within the 24-hour shift system, including day and night shifts.

  • Use of a car or access to a means of mobility to travel across the Trust footprint in line with service needs
