The Respiratory Physiology service at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust has an opportunity to appoint a motivated, enthusiastic individual to the role of Clinical Physiologist (Band 5).

The successful applicant will primarily be based in lung function on the St Mary's Hospital site and the Sleep Centre at Charing Cross Hospital. You will join a busy, friendly multidisciplinary team including physiologists, clinical scientists, administrators and consultants.

In lung function, the post-holder will be responsible for performing standard lung function tests, including spirometry, gas transfer and lung volume measurements on our diverse patient population. Training will also be provided for development of skills in further lung function tests including skin allergy tests, capillary blood gases and field exercise tests. When working in the Sleep Centre the postholder will be responsible for analysing respiratory sleep studies and CPAP monitoring clinics.

It is desirable for the successful applicant to have had some previous experience in lung function testing. It is essential to have a good science background with a BSc in Healthcare Science (respiratory major) or equivalent. It would be preferable if you have obtained the ARTP practitioners examination and are working towards RCCP registration.

Main duties of the job

To provide diagnostic Lung Function tests independently, with the opportunity to further your skills and experience in the Imperial College Healthcare Sleep Centre at Charing Cross Hospital. The work of the postholder must be reliable, accurate and to a high professional standard. The information obtained is used to assign the diagnosis of disease and to identify treatment regimes.

The postholder is also responsible for the maintenance and calibration of all equipment including therapeutic/diagnostic equipment issued for use in the patients' home.
