The CHTTs are a multidisciplinary, community-based crisis mental health team. We aim to provide a safe, holistic and recovery focussed home-based treatment service for adults as an alternative to inpatient admission, and for early discharge from the ward in the least disruptive and restrictive environment. The focus is to enable individuals to maintain their everyday function and develop strategies to manage their experiences.

This is an exciting time to be part of the Trust's Crisis Home Treatment Teams. We have recently developed the Trust's crisis pathway to include a mobile response service supporting those in crisis to be cared for away from A&E or an acute mental health facility.

This Coral Mental Health Crisis Hub, with whom we work closely, builds on the Orchid Emergency Service, our expanded Mental Health Support Line and other crisis support across the Trust by integrating these together to deliver an improved service for our patients.

Main duties of the job

The CHTTs are a multi-disciplinary team made up of doctors, occupational therapists, advanced clinical practitioners, mental health nurses, recovery support workers and peer support workers. The workload is team-based and team members do not carry a specific caseload. Senior occupational therapists would work as part of the wider team undertaking regular shift patterns but would have protected time to undertake occupational therapy specific interventions.

The aim of the service is to provide a safe, holistic and recovery focussed home-based treatment for adults as an alternative to inpatient admission, and for early discharge from inpatient services. The post holder will provide a variety of interventions in crisis resolution and home treatment.

You will join our supportive and friendly group of occupational therapists. We use the Model of Human Occupation as well as other assessments to review the client's environment, sensory preferences and physical disability. The successful candidate would carry out short-term specific occupational therapy work to promote recovery goals and facilitate independence in the community, including signposting to external agencies as well as referring to community-run OT groups.

We are working towards having a menu of high-quality interventions to develop expertise and consistency across the service lines and proactively promote occupational therapy within multidisciplinary teams.

About us

Preceptorship Plus:

As a Trust we are keen to support staff in their development and have created opportunities through our Preceptorship Plus Programme. As well as Band 6 applicants we are keen to hear from those who feel ready to progress from Band 5 to 6 and we are ready to support you in a coordinated and structured model of practice. Preceptorship Plus offers you the opportunity to consolidate your core skills and knowledge as an Occupational Therapist whilst extending your scope of practice in risk assessment, management and coordination of care. You would be offered a protected caseload, shadowing and supervision from Occupational Therapists and within the team and work regular hours in the period of being a preceptee. Please contact us to speak more about our innovative programme.

Trust-wide Occupational Therapy Service:

The successful candidate will join our wider occupational therapy service which includes our community, learning disability, specialist, national and forensic service lines. We meet quarterly for occupational therapy training events which have recently included training around sensory profiling and MOHO.
