The EDII midwife will play a vital role in the recruitment of midwives from global majority, LGBTQ+, or disabled backgrounds. In order to demonstrate leadership dedication, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion & Inequality, priorities are embedded within the NHS Constitution, NHS Contract, and national programs such as the NHS Equality Delivery System. Workplace Disability Equality Standard (WDES) and Workplace Race Equality Standard (WRES). Within our Trust, our Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Inequality Strategy, Policy and priorities are aligned to these areas. It is believed that this role will contribute at all levels across the service in comprehending what we do well and what we can improve through the problems faced for those who fall under the nine protected characteristics of The Equality Act 2010.

The EDII lead will work closely with the International recruitment programme and will help provide tools to create transformational change and enable a culture of diversity, equality and inclusion, where the power of difference is valued. IR is a two-way process (power is divided) designed for both mentor and mentee to express their lived experiences in order to help confront inequality and develop more inclusive cultures within our organisation.

Main duties of the job

Acknowledge the local demographics and outcomes for the diverse demographics of the Shropshire including our out of area service users.Establish key links in the community and work in partnership with stakeholders and the Shropshire Telford and Wrekin Maternity & Neonatal Voice Partnership (MNVP).Assist in ensuring that the MNVP have an inclusive and representative group of service users ensuring members, where possible, are representative of women using Shropshire maternity services.Raise awareness of key health and maternity issues within the community and work with SaTHcolleagues and external agencies, including interpreting services to improve outcomes.Review all clinical care pathways and highlight service gaps addressing the risk of perinatal morbidity and mortality for service users from BAME, LGBTQ+, disabled and marginalised backgrounds.Utilise information technology for the benefit of care delivery to mothers and babies within this identified group.Make recommendations for service development and demonstrate a dedication of learning from incidents, complaints, PALS and from feedback via the Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin MNVP.Drive inclusivity by actively encouraging service users from BAME, LGBTQ+ and marginalised communities to participate in the improvement of local maternity services through co-design and co-production
