We are offering a full-time Band 6 (indicative) Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist position across York and Selby.

You will independently manage your caseload, lead group interventions, and deliver training. Collaboration with multiple agencies and specialties is essential to effectively support the children and families in our care.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Responsibilities

• Provide specialist speech and language therapy for paediatric patients with complex needs, including speech, language, communication, and swallowing difficulties.
• Manage an independent caseload of patients with complex communication, learning, physical, psychological, and cognitive conditions.
• Maintain accurate records in line with Trust, HCPC, and RCSLT guidelines.
• Take responsibility for a defined service area, working independently with clinical oversight as per Trust objectives.

Support and Leadership

• Offer support, specialist advice, and training to less experienced staff and students.
• Serve as a departmental and Trust resource, offering expert information and guidance on relevant conditions.

Service Development and Flexibility

• Contribute to the collection of business data to inform service development and priorities.
• Work flexibly to meet departmental needs, supporting inpatient, outpatient, and community services, including out-of-hours and off-site work as required.

Professional Development and Research

• Participate in supervision, education, and training to support professional development for yourself and others.
• Initiate evidence-based audits and projects to enhance clinical practice and user involvement, implementing local service improvements where needed.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

Essential

• HCPC Registered Speech & Language Therapist
• Evidence of relevant CPD activities

Desirable

• Evidence of post graduate training within paediatrics
• Practice placement supervisor qualification

Experience and Knowledge

Essential

• Experience in a relevant junior role, including the management of a range of conditions, with evidence of additional knowledge acquired through formal and informal clinical supervision.
• Evidence of ability to manage complex clinical presentations
• Experience in delivering clinical treatment within specialist area
• Understanding of current issues in health care Standards of Professional Practice

Desirable

• Developed / Specialist clinical skills within paediatrics
• Ability to use different communication methods and styles, relevant to specialty
• Experience in the use of outcome measures to evaluate clinical treatment
• Experience of training/supporting others (including students) within specialist clinical area
• Delivery of relevant audit/research projects
